For picture books, I’d love to see more stories about communities and family or cultural traditions. I’m also down for totally silly, wacky stories that make kids giggle. ☺️
I’d also be interested to see some more author/illustrated projects with bold, colorful styles! #mswl
I’m most actively looking for MG and YA graphic novels by BIPOC creators. I’d love to see contemporary projects or stories with a touch of magic. Would also love to see more nonfiction GNs. #mswl
#mswl picture book & graphic novel creators: If you are an illustrator who writes and illustrates with heart and humor, we'd love to consider your picture book dummy and sample art or graphic novel. You can submit at QueryManager.com/Henandink
For all of the above:
-Diverse experiences and marginalized voices are essential.
-Books that uplift women and are intersectional are a must.
-I love both books fueled by rage, as well as books that make me believe in love and joy #MSWL 6/7
In young adult:
-Romance! Rom com all the way through "the universe must have put us together" love.
- voice-driven contemporary set against a big, pivotal point in the MC's life
-psychological horror that has something bigger to say about who we are as a society #MSWL 5/7
-locked room mysteries/thrillers with a big cast of characters
- I like historical-set fiction but only if it is a genre I love (horror, rom com, etc) set in a different time period #MSWL 4/7
-what I'm calling the "rom dram," or romantic drama, with deep emotional conflict, rather than plot-driven drama
-social thrillers and horror w. commercial pacing, but have a deeper level of weight to them about something that occupies the social consciousness today #MSWL 3/7
Alexandra Sehulster @ASehulsterI've spent the last month formulating my 2021 #MSWL (agented). I look forward to reading the great projects that this year brings! 1/7
-a big, gorgeous love story that rips your heart out
-voice-driven fiction for millennials and Gen Z that encompasses the social, romantic, and professional dynamics of the generation, preferrably with a light touch or dash of humor #MSWL 2/7
rebecca mix @mixbeccay r we getting cruella when ursula is RIGHT THERE. RIGHT THERE. i don’t need a reason to care about the puppy killer! sometimes people just suck! show me ursula trying to usurp that bearded fuckboi triton & having a fall from grace GIVE ME MY SEA WITCH MOVIE
but also... #mswl! give me more sea witches with dubious morals who want what they want and will do what it takes!
speaking editorially for a moment: this is one of the reasons that my general/historical fiction #MSWL includes "immigration stories that are not from Ellis Island."
ditto for Jewish stories--tell me a story that isn't about Ellis or the Holocaust (or the US, for that matter)
I'm happy to report that I've re-opened to queries! You can find my latest #MSWL here: cleliagore.com/mswl. You'll see that I'm in a nonfiction state of mind. Handy graphic for ya too. Note that I accept queries on Query Manager only. I look forward to reviewing your work🤓
If someone writes a YA romance between two emo teens who go to a lot of concerts together, I’ll take that #mswl yesterday. It’s been over a year since I saw a live show and I want those feelings! Think 2004-2007 alt rock/emo extravaganza
