Mystery/suspense – I really like creepy, gothic suspense like A FORGERY OF ROSES. And GALLANT—it feels like gothic, fantasy, & horror all in one! Anything that comps to CRIMSON PEAK is always on my list—creepy manor, period piece, lots of secrets, ghosts, some romance!

Comps: PAN’S LABYRINTH for fairy-tale horror, Carrie Ryan (especially THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH), THE YEAR OF THE WITCHING, FINAL GIRLS, MEXICAN GOTHIC, WILDER GIRLS. I also can’t get enough horror movies—BODIES BODIES BODIES and BARBARIAN are two more that’ve stuck with me!

Other things I’d like to see
- YA stories set in boarding schools
- stories set in the Fall in where season is a character almost
- stories set in Northeastern small, Gothic towns
- stories about secret cults or societies

I have a soft spot for witches - gothic or cosy, historical or contemporary, I don’t mind. Bonus points for fresh interpretations and anything outside Western tradition #MSWL

#mswl I am really into my gothic horror at the moment. Especially if you can comp Crimson Peak, Nothing but Blackened Teeth, or Dracula.
