In MG, I’d love to see:
☀️Contemporary stories about family and friendship.
☀️Mysteries with a commercial hook
☀️I really enjoyed reading Esperanza Rising
•Feel good adventure stories amongst friends like the Goonies.
•Quests with female protagonists that display bravery and perseverance that’s not in spite of gender.
•Solving age old mysteries that no one thought were real. Bring me prepubescent Indiana Jones.
“Middle Grade: modern Sweet Valley Twins series (featuring best friends).” @agentvicente #MSWL mariavicente.com/representation
Reality sucks, so give me escapism. Send me your adult thriller, your YA thriller, or YA romance, or YA sweet friendship story, or or or. I have enough problems right now, I NEED to escape. #MSWL
--Queer coming of age with strong friendships and maybe first love
--High-spirited adventures, realistic OR fantasy
--Realistic fiction about a character dealing with mental health difficulties and finding a light at the end of the tunnel
YA Graphic Novel
really looking more to contemporary side of things; I have a ton of Fantasy and want to branch out
Slice of life storylines

Across all ages I would love to see the friendship vibe Otis and Eric have in Sex Education. #mswl
I will also take villains who are the MCs, heroes who are made heroes because they’d be too powerful if they were baddies, some murder mystery, himbos & bimbos being best friends, the vibes of Miles Morales leaping off the building, also the vibes of Nick Miller doing anything
Stories about best friends set against the backdrop of competitive, high-stakes, art-based industries: this is what I live for! Think THE BALLERINAS by Rachel Kapelke-Dale and SMILE AND LOOK PRETTY by Amanda Pellegrino.
#MSWL for 2022, all your upmarket suspenseful adult please. DOs: Magic, Murder, Secrets, Impossible Bargains, Hauntings, Libraries, Heists, Lies, Friendships, Betrayals. DONTs: Sad White People Doing Sad White Things to each other for whole novels.
In YA, I'd love to see:
👑 Queer rom coms
👑 Contemporary friendship stories
👑 Thrillers with isolated settings
👑 Horror with gothic and atmospheric vibes
👑 Historical that centers on POC stories
I REALLY want some COLLEGE-AGE YA! I binged The Sex Lives of College Girls and just adored these characters so much. I want to see diversity, humor, willingness to be messy, friendship, and honesty.
There can be romance, but it doesn't need to be the center of it all.
* Positive female friendships—Give me girls supporting girls. Girls teaming up for the greater good. Girls who love their friends with their whole hearts.
* Underrepresented voices
* Fresh takes on fantasy
* Stories with a speculative twist
Haley Casey @Haley_J_CaseyThe next HELLO GIRLS remains on the top of my #MSWL, but as I consider endless, emotional, meaningful platonic love and the types of female friendships that are ride or die in the way my own have been—especially as teens, in high school, in YA—let's add BOOKSMART as an example.
I cannot and do not have enough stories about tight-knit female friends. I don't care what they're doing or what genre they're in as long as they're together, rejecting all the expectations put on young women, and refusing to be separated. #MSWL
Cortney Radocaj 🏳️🌈💖💜💙 @CortneyRadocajwelp i binged arcane this weekend and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you have anything that can use it as a comp, SEND IT TO ME I AM OBSESSED #mswl
the steampunk mixed with a dash of cyberpunk???? jinx’s no-turning-back villainous spiral???? the rifts and tension built between friends and family bc of ACTIVE choices characters make???? INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS UGH #mswl
✨ Ally is writing a dark academia sports book⛸🌲 @natureofpagesI really wish I saw more ridiculously strong friendships in books. the ride or die friendships, the “I don’t want a future that doesn’t have you in it” friendships, the “I can’t wait for my kids to call you aunt/uncle” friendships.
I fill my books with them and hope it shows 💛
#MSWL forever and ever and ever
“I love novels that deal with female relationships. Think: best friends; mother-and-daughter(s); sisters (incl twins!); sisters-in-law; mother-in-law and daughter-in-law; and girlfriends.” @ceciliaclyra #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/
Time for another #MSWL! "For middle grade, take her on quests with female MCs that display bravery and perseverance that’s not in spite of gender, and on feel good adventures amongst friends like the Goonies." @PinaRamona
On the totally other end of the spectrum, I want YA and especially MG contemporary graphic novels! I want heartbreaking friendships and first crushes and discovering yourself and coming into your own.
“Unlikely friendship novels with heavy plot & a feel-good ending.” @carlywatters #MSWL psliterary.com/submissions/
