I don't do pure fantasy novels, but I am looking for books like THE HAZELWOOD that are set in a contemporary world but have fantastical elements. #MSWL

Ok! Supernatural creatures #MSWL:

- super gross/scary mermaids or sirens; no Disney here
- ghosts, demons (but please no angels vs. demons)
- obscure legends (think the Grimm or Supernatural tv shows)
- Swamp monsters
- Harpies/Furies
- Asian inspired like Jorogumo or Nukekubi

Lunchtime at @bookendslit finds @jamerrson & I discussing #MSWL ideas and some plot hooks we would both love to see. Plane crashes & bucket lists lead the chat as well lost in the wilderness stories. For me, these are almost always for an adult audience.

I like literary, high concept sci-fi in the vein of Ray Bradbury or Philip K. Dick. Bradbury in particular was great at really character-driven, emotion-driven stories, whether they were sci-fi, horror or contemporary. That's what I'm looking for in sci-fi. #MSWL

#MSWL I have LITERALLY been begging for YA Fantasy rooted in a Native American tribe's mythology. If any native writers feel confident enough to send me their work, I'd be so happy to read it!

#MSWL I had a MG Wolf shapeshifter story slip through my fingers and I was slightly devastated. If you have one (and they're not actually called werewolves), I want it. I'm still hesitant on the vampires unless done differently, but wolves... Wolves are a must!

#MSWL As always, I'm so in love with YA. Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Contemporary, Historical, etc.. The things I'm not all that into are actually time travel (in any age range) and alternate dimensions (as of right now...little tired of them...).

#MSWL I want a middle grade that reminds me of Anne of Green Gables.

I REALLY want a YA or Adult ghost hunting novel. Still hunting for that. #MSWL
