I hadn't updated my actual #MSWL page since starting the new agency, but I did so today--if you're interested, you can find a more detailed discussion of what I'm looking for in submitted projects this coming year here:

In both F and NF though, I'm pretty open minded on subject matter. I mostly get excited about quality of writing and expertise; if you're a good stylist and can be trusted on the topic, we'll figure out how to make other people care about it. #MSWL

Twitter's not the right place for this probably, but just in case: I work on more academic-leaning stuff like trade science and history (especially if it has a cultural angle as described above). Particularly a fan of physics and biology writing. #MSWL

Essays/commentary are probably worth calling out on their own. We're seeing all kinds of engaging work happening in literary NF right now and if you're as excited about it as I am, send me your stuff please #MSWL

Most of my reading is manuscripts, obviously, but I do try to keep up best I can with as much contemporary published stuff as possible, for work reasons and my own enjoyment. I'm gonna catalog that 2019 reading in this thread.I never quite know how to reverse-engineer a fiction commission like one needs to on #MSWL day, so how about this: here's my 2019 reading list. I liked each of these to varying degrees, but I was drawn enough to them at first to want to buy them? That feels somewhat useful.

The 4th of July always makes me think of CITY ON FIRE, a giant novel that is excellent all the way through and a book for which I’ll be hunting for comps for the rest of my book careerIf YOU have written something like CITY ON FIRE,, #MSWL

Started the year off by reading Alyson Hagy's SCRIBE, and really loved it. Appalachian folklore, ghost stories, pitch-perfect prose in a short book that doesn't waste any words. Still digesting its beautiful and complex ending. You won't regret the few hours it takes to read it.Honestly liked this one enough to say that if you feel your work is in this vein--and not just on the level of literal subject matter, you'll know what I mean if you read it--I hope you'll send me a query. #MSWL

I also do rep some adult lit fic. For #MSWL, that's probably best expressed in comps. If you spent any time thinking about the structure/style of these (relatively) recent books while writing yours, I'd love a query: (cont'd)

Otherwise, in nonfiction: culture essays, sports (as long as it comes with a broader non-sport ramification), history, science, all those upmarket NF categories. #MSWL

Basically: if you're a lefty writer with a book idea and are dismayed that it's mostly just mainstream liberalism getting shelf space, I'd love to hear about what you're working on. #MSWL

First one is obvious (I hope): send me lefty stuff, please. Leftist critiques of culture, history, contemporary politics, policy, people, big ideas, grassroots movements, and the like. I would really love to see sharp, refreshing, truly progressive thinking and writing #MSWLThis extends to online stuff too. If you're a writer who loves Left or Weird Twitter as much as I do, and you think you've got a concept that those communities would love, please get in touch! Maybe we can develop it together and find a home for it. #MSWL

Happy #MSWL Day! I will add to this a bit throughout the day, but this will be an ongoing thread of themes, topics, categories, aesthetics, and other miscellany that I'd love to see in my inbox over the next few months. If this sounds like your project, get in touch!First one is obvious (I hope): send me lefty stuff, please. In case you thought I was kidding, here's another query that fits extremely well with my literary tastes pic.twitter.com/Fc3TYKii6q(Actually if someone has an ironic The Horrors of the Radical and Violent Left book I'd love to see it lol #MSWL)

I won't clog the hashtags today but one thing: I don't see near enough queried nonfiction as someone who loves working on it and seeks it out. Politics, history, science, culture writing, anything else.Fine, just once. Here's my #MSWL page, for reference!

So, I updated my website. If you're thinking of querying me (and I hope you are!), this page has a detailed description of things I like and what I'm looking for, in a #MSWL sort of way.
