I am really craving stories with more upmarket or literary voices—especially in a quieter story with a really unique or surprising premise.

In nonfiction, I have yet to really develop a taste for what I want. I love topics such as spirituality, intuition, natural living, community, culture, food, and agriculture. But would also love to be surprised by something completely new to me!

I do love a good contemporary romance, but prefer it to come backed by a really strong B-plot or for the romance to be part of a “bigger picture” story. I loved THE ARC by Tory Henwood Hoen.

Mild speculative elements are okay—in fact, I tend to LOVE them—if they are grounded in our world, or very VERY near world.

I love suspense, especially with a dose of weird (BUNNY by Mona Awad is a fav). Dark stories are my go-to (I started reading King at age 9…)

In fiction, I am mainly looking for contemporary fiction. I might consider historical (especially if it’s a crossover), but I’ll be a harder sell on it. I am not open to fantasy or sci-fi.

Please remember, when I say something could be a comp that I don't mean exactly the same story. A comp exemplifies one or more elements, like voice, character development, pacing, tropes, writing style, etc.

Middle grade or YA contemporary stories - without romance or with it in the background. Stories like: American Street, The Hate You Give, Tiny Pretty Things, The Stars Beneath Our Feet, Ghost, Harbor Me, Watch Over Me, and From the Desk of Zoe Washington.
