It’s that time of year when fall submissions start flying, so here’s a little #MSWL thread! Big picture, I’m acquiring MG and YA novels and graphic novels in all genres and am always looking for more underrepresented voices in all categories.
Penny Moore @literarypennyWhen I was a kid, I had to change elementary schools four times across different countries and states. It was difficult for me to make friends and adjust every time. I’m sure a lot of children go through this, and it’s hard because they never have control in these situations.
Often times parents have to move for work or family dynamics change in a way that requires them to be uprooted from familiar places. So I think it’d be great to see more coming-of-age MG stories about transient children, especially ones with diaspora backgrounds. #MSWL
🌪️Stories set in the near future, dealing with the climate emergency (think THIS FRAGILE EARTH)
🌷 Strong romantic subplots!
👩👩👧👦Strong family bonds!
🕸️Psychological horror, rather than gore-y horror
🏖️ Summery settings not usually associated with horror
👩Relatable characters facing complicated moral dilemmas
👾 Cool monsters! Scary ghosts!
ADULT ROMANCE (2/2)
🔮Paranormal, but ghosts and witches rather than vampires and werewolves
🎬Relationships in the public eye (think THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO)
💥Unlikable heroines! Enemies-to-lovers!
🔥 All heat levels
ADULT ROMANCE (1/2)
🌹 Low-stakes, realistic contemporary romances
🌈 LGBTQ+ rep! Bi and lesbian women! Trans characters!
🏛️ Historical romances set in unusual settings
🌸 Diverse, funny, and voice-y rom-coms!!!
Write Here… @WriteHereUK‘Submissions that stand out tend to have a concise query letter that clearly sets out the stakes for the protagonist(s). What do they want? What’s in the way?' @LBA_agency #LiteraryAgent @hannschofield on submitting to agents: tinyurl.com/ycweaxd4

#MSWL - I need a gripping, chilling YA mystery. A laugh out loud MG. And some striking voices!
And I’d LOVE a great upmarket adult mystery or romantic suspense!
Kristine Swartz @KristineESwartzI'm feeling burnt out from summer/spring/all-of-2020, but want to go into fall with good energy so here are some of the things I'm looking for! #MSWL
Werewolf and vampire romances because I've been feeling super nostalgic lately and it's almost spooky season. #MSWL
