The full moon’s here, and so is my inbox! Ready to devour your speculative, magical, and gothic stories—bring me the grit, the heart, the thrill that makes me stay up all night. #mswl is here! manuscriptwishlist.com/mswl-post/jessica-berg/
Ok, agents and authors. It's me! Your friendly, local editor. I'm starting to build my 2026 list. Interested in what I'm looking for? Sure, you are. Here's my #mswl .
[1/3] edgy, voice-driven book club fiction with a fresh, commercial hook; anything speculative—magical realist, horror, sci-fi, dystopian, you name it, especially with a feminist bend!
Writers, I'm open to queries and seeking faith-related nonfiction from authors w/ strong platforms. Fiction I'm looking for: women's fiction, sweet or closed door romances/rom-coms, and stories w/ magical realism. #opentoqueries#literaryagent#mswlrachellegardner.com/submissions
I also want to see cozier romantasy, where magic is woven into smaller aspects. Think kitchen and garden witches that brew intention into their hobbies.
For speculative fiction and magical realism, I love stories that deal with time in an interesting way (OONA OUT OF ORDER) but I also love Isabel Allende’s stories.
I'm drawn to ambitious, complex, & weird stories. I love intelligent characters with complex morality. I'm a fan of fantasies grounded in the contemporary world that seamlessly blends magic. If your story features romance of any kind, I'm all in.
-Romance with a spec twist (witches, ghosts, magic, timeloops, love spells, soulmates, etc.)
-Romantasy (but the worldbuilding needs to feel very grounded and accessible with the focus more on the “rom” than the “fantasy”)

#MSWL - Music Magic! Open to any form (#MG or #YA , this world or fantasy), I just need to see music magic in my inbox… I want to see characters playing instruments to channel & utilise their powers - magic pouring out of pianos, etc, people entranced by melodies…
NEED.
- magical realism
- literary fiction that feels *playful* and *joyful* about the genre, rather than snobbish and gatekeep-y. I have no fear of the weird or wacky, so long as it has something intelligent and important to say.
- fiction about unconventional relationships
- speculative fiction
(I prefer grounded, literary sci-fi + fantasy. few secondary worlds, but rather our world steeped in liminal magic and/or technology. anything creepy, toothy, gritty, strange, something that sends a shiver down your spine.)
- steampunk everything
