To anyone who is panicking because they misspelled my name in their query... My own godmother just spelled my name wrong ๐
People spell my name wrong. It happens All. The. Time. If you accidentally spell my name wrong in your letter, relax. I wonโt hold it against you #querytip

I'm getting a LOT of queries with super low word counts for their category/genre. When you're editing make sure to keep this in mind! Not sure? A great resource is litrejections.com/word-count/ #querytip #subtip

#querytip It is better to be honest in your query about whether your story is published or not. The truth always comes out. There is an admittedly minuscule chance I'll rep a self published book but there is NO chance I'll rep an author who lied to me about it.

The synopsis box on QM isn't for the summary from your query. It's for the synopsis, which details the events of your story. I don't require that you submit a synopsis (but I appreciate it when you do). You don't have to break your query into pieces to fill that box #querytip

If you're querying and find yourself using phrases such as your character "becomes someone he's not" Try to find more descriptive ways to show what the story's about. You want to pull readers into your story and to do that you need these details #querytip

Truth: I rarely even look at the greeting in queries. People spell my name wrong all the time. I'm totally used to it, so I won't decline based on this. However, if I get one more query addressing me as "Dear Sir" I think I might just lose it....#querytip (1/2)I should add that attention to detail matters. You've worked so hard on your story & query! Don't press send as soon as you finish writing. Let it sit for a minute, come back & proof read. An extra 5 minutes will save you from making rookie mistakes. #querytip (2/2)
