Emmy Nordstrom Higdon
11/ @LouRaguse's true crime book VANISHED IN VERMILLION comes out soon, and I would LOVE to do more non-fiction crime stories. If you have read, watched, or listened to something true crime, I probably have, too. And if I haven't, please tell me about it.
emmy, purveyor of spines @emmy_of_spines1/ Pals, I was raised on late 90's/early 00's crime dramas. So many of these stories are how-the-mighty-fall type stories... marginalized victims getting justice or vengeance while privileged oppressive folks get their come uppance. BUT
2/...they are also big time copaganda. If you are writing crime stories that will appeal to my sense of nostalgia AND have progressive politics, I want to see them Very Much! #MSWL
#WritingCommunity: When folks wonder what kind of true crime I'm looking for, Killer Inside on Netflix is exactly it. This story weaves together questions about social norms, capitalism, culture, and deviation thoughtfully and with nuance. #MSWL
3/ Only 11% of my list is non-fiction! Please send me your deep-dive journalism, progressive true crime, essay collections, and science books! Think @esmewang's COLLECTED SCHIZOPHRENIAS or @yourewrongabout.
Irulan, Princess Royal, Bene Gesserit-trained @Nicole_CliffeWhat’s the one unsolved mystery you most want answers to in your lifetime?
I’m cheating bc it’s MY prompt.
1. What happened to Asha Degree?
2. What happened to the Beaumont Children?
3. Who the HELL was the Freeway Phantom?
I'm just saying, but all these unsolved stories are *exactly* the kind of deep-dive queries I want to see in my inbox. True crime, fiction based on these, whatever. It's my catnip. #MSWL
