#QueryTip A good concept can get you full requests from agents. But I caution against sending things before they're ready. Often I love a premise, but the writing was still rough and needed work. That meant passing. And as many know, it's hard to get back that first impression.

#Querytip It's not impressive that you have worked on this ms for the last 12 years. It makes me think you don't have any other new ideas.

Writers, please keep track of the agents you've queried and their responses somehow (i.e. via spreadsheet/log) #querytip #pubtip (1/2)

QUERY WIDELY! You want multiple agents to request your full/partial. #querytip #pubtip

Writers, don't give exclusivity when querying. It doesn't endear your query to the agent any more than if you queried normally. #querytip

Cut out the small talk in your queries. I don't need you to wish me a pleasant day. Just write a good story and show it. #querytip

Eliminate phrases like "I realize that you're quite busy, so I'll try to be brief." If you alrdy know I'm busy, just get to the pt #querytip

I usually read queries in the order I recv them, but if you have a great title in your subject I will be tempted to read it first #querytip
