Can one of your comp titles be a self-published book, or is that not the best idea? #AskDvpit

If trying to place w trad pub, better to comp a trad pubbed book. Unless that self-pub is a bestseller in your genre, like rom #AskDvpit

Do you still consider a MS YA with adult protagonists? #askDVpit #DVPit

YA must have teen protag w their story through the lens of the teenage experience, not through the lens of adult looking back. #AskDvpit

#AskDVpit Is the 13yo protag too young for YA? Should it be categorized as MG?

It depends on the story, content, and voice. Look at your comp titles. Are you using MG or YA books to comp? #AskDvpit

Vanessa @vanessaepeay

are DVPit agents interested in #ownvoices #AskDvpit

I am. But I'm also interested in non-ownvoices stories by marginalized writers. I don't like typecasting underrepresented voices. #AskDvpit

#AskDvpit Do agents prefer personalized or jumping right into the pitch when it comes to querying?

Personalize if it makes sense, i.e. the agent's client is a comp. Don't bother with small talk. Focus on your story's hook #AskDvpit

#AskDvpit Does a very brief cover letter put you off or is a bit more detail OK if still under a page? Thanks

I prefer a short, but concise query than a rambly one. Query should entice agents to read your book, not act as a synopsis. #AskDvpit
