YA romcoms or YA contemporary with romantic elements. Especially if they're queer! Think Heartstopper, Young Royals, You Should See Me in a Crown, I Kissed Shara Wheeler, etc. The cuter and fluffier, the better.
Stories with the entrenched characters arcs, cults, unreliable narrators, eeriness, and survival component of Yellowjackets. I am OBSESSED with this show to say the least and would love to see these elements in the YA thriller/horror space or the adult speculative space.
Reminder that I'm always on the lookout for dark academia books in YA & Adult especially by BIPOC authors!
Anything including a speculative element, solving a mystery, challenging the elitism of higher education, and a close knit group of friends are 👌
If you have a friendship breakup book, especially following the aftermath (in MG or YA), then I'd love to see it. Or even friends who realize they're not right for each other anymore.
Friendship breakups are painful!
❄️Megan❄️ - Closed to Queries @Megan_ManzanoI will open back up to queries tomorrow! 🥳 In preparation, I'd like to do a #MSWL thread about what I'd love to see in my inbox.
As always, I'm on the lookout for queer representation. I'd particularly love to see:
1. More identity discovery/first crushes in MG
2. Sapphic YA rom-coms
3. More queer works by BIPOC authors
4. Queer stories w/ happy endings
5. Supportive queer found families
Anne Tibbets @AnneTibbetsI have finished The Queen's Gambit and I am bereft I cannot watch it again for the first time.
This was easily one of my favorite shows of the year and if you have any project like this in the YA or YA crossover space, I am HERE for it.
Megan Manzano ~ Reopening to Queries 10/05 @Megan_ManzanoSince I'll be reopening to queries on 10/05, here is my official manuscript wishlist that has been updated!
However I did promise a thread of what I'm looking for so here we go!
Countdown #MSWL Day 1:
My list does skew towards YA so I'd love MG everything!
Particuarly stories that begin to explore identity and sexuality. Especially with first crushes.
Zabé/Z.R. Ellor @ZREllorSomeone let me write a YA Jurassic Park tie-in about bored teen tour guides twitter.com/JurassicPark2g…
Okay, this is a huge #MSWL.
But also teens doing ridiculous stuff/developing crushes during their summer jobs or in an amusement park.
Sign me up.
[kie.ran] @danblackroydFriend breakups (I mean good, longterm, very close and intimate friendships) are, in my experience, much more emotionally devastating than romantic breakups. And yet, unlike romantic relationships, we have almost no socialization (even in media images) on how to navigate them.
If you have a story about friendship breakups for MG or YA, please send them my way when I reopen to queries.
We need to talk about this more.
Would love some YA horror in my box. Think Wilder Girls, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sawkill Girls or Not Even Bones.
Give me creepy atmosphere, creatures in the shadows, rituals, gore.
When I open up to queries I really want creepy af MG/YA, mysteries, and thrillers especially in small towns or with a group of kids/teens.
Throw in some interpersonal drama too and I'm sold.
Megan Manzano 🇵🇷 🌸 ~ Closed to Queries @Megan_ManzanoI'll be closing to queries today at noon EST.
I will reopen in May and will be participating in DVPit.
If you have any of the following in MG or YA, I'd love to see it:
- Queer rep, especially a queer rom com
- Found families (bonus points if it's like Cheer on Netflix)
- Latinx voices
- Contemporary fantasy or spec fic
An update to my #MSWL:
I'm looking for more MG & YA thrillers/mysteries in my inbox. Whether you have an unreliable narrator, a group of friends trying to solve/find something, or some weird magic going on, I'd love to see it!
