I'm pickier with YA lately since it already makes up a large part of my list, but I'm still looking for magical realism, contemporary witches/magic, gothic stories, the influence of modern tech in romcoms, and fantasy or reimaginings that are different and fresh. #MSWL
Thao Le @ThaoLe8Since I'm reopening to submissions today, I thought I'd share what's currently on my #MSWL, though many of the things I've tweeted about in the past are still relevant. I'm most hungry for:
ANY AND ALL Middle Grade, be it fantasy or contemporary, but it has to have lots of heart. Some recent MG I've enjoyed are Front Desk by Kelly Yang, Small Spaces by Katherine Arden, and all the Rick Riordan Presents books have been stellar #MSWL
Kathleen Alves 🇵🇭 🧘🏽♀️ @katalves18cWhen I hear Lizzo's "Yeah, I got boy problems, that's the human in me/Bling bling, then I solve 'em, that's the goddess in me," it reminds me of when Artemis turned Actaeon into a stag, then eaten by his own hounds
Mike Stuchbery💀🍷 @MikeStuchbery_Olga of Kiev, who invited her husband's murderers to a banquet, burned them alive, then sent birds carrying burning brands to burn down the city from which they came from. twitter.com/thankvis/statu…
#mswl an Olga of Kiev book
Alyza Liu @alyzaliui can’t believe i forgot to say—in these most autumnal of falls, i’d love to acquire a #middlegrade or #graphicnovel with strong “over the garden wall” vibes 💀🍁🌕
Wenqing Yan @Yuumei_ArtOld fanart of #SpiritedAway :D Been so busy I haven't had much time to draw new things yet but soooon!
What's you favorite #Miyazaki movie? Mine has always been Princess Mononoke, the intricate story about protecting our environment is truly timeless. pic.twitter.com/xYrDsw3MEW
#MSWL a Princess Mononoke style fantasy about environmentalism and nature. MG, YA, or even Adult.
Eliza Swift @elizaswift“That vein” = exploring the way technology impacts our lives in an interesting new way. If your YA novel could be described as “like Black Mirror but fluffy,” I want to see it.
"like Black Mirror but fluffy" is what I want, too! #mswl
I finally watched John Wick Chapter 3 and while it is not quite as good as the first one (but better than the second one), I am still really intrigued by the world building, this ecosystem of assassins... I'd love to see a magic version of it... #mswl
So I watched the Batman: Hush animated movie last night... I preferred the comics, but it did immediately rekindle my love for Selina/Bruce. So if your book has a Selina/Bruce type of romance/dynamic... I'd love to see it when I reopen to submissions #mswl
I am a fan of books that make you feel angry about the ending. I want to rep a book that makes you so invested in the characters (whether you hate them or love them) that at the end you want to throw the book across the room. #mswl
So I visited Bamburgh Castle today and heard the ballad of The Laidly Worm of Spindleston Heugh and now I want a feminist retelling of Princess Margaret who got turned into a wyrm. en.m.wikisource.org/wiki/English_F… #mswl
