FYI, I feel more or less the same way about fairies as I do about vampires; I like them as terrifying, semi-unstoppable, supernatural forces which, if they aren't outright the villain, are at least a problem for your MC. #MSWL

Btw, I'm still looking for my YA contemporary about a kid/siblings who go spend a summer working at their relative's shitty tourist trap in the middle of nowhere (i.e. Gravity Falls without the supernatural parts). #MSWL

I'd love to see more YA books of all genres and subgenres with lesbian MCs. Many people before me have pointed this out, but I feel like the balance of LGBT YA is definitely skewed more towards gay boy MCs than anything else. #MSWL

The hallmark of a lot of urban fantasy seems to be a mish-mash of cross-cultural supernatural folklore and myths. This is cool, but I'd love to see UF with non-Western, culture-specific secret supernatural subcultures. #MSWL (bear in mind I am very picky about UF).

Especially if you want to set it in a pre-Globalism period of history where it's even more plausible that these communities would be so insular. I'd love a British Raj UF that's mostly communities of Indian folklore creatures with a handful of British Isles imports. #MSWL

Going back to my earlier tweets about vampires, I think one of the things I dislike about more new-school vamps is the idea of social vampires with customs and organized societies, as opposed to the old-school single vampire that picks a town and infiltrates it. #MSWL

Leon Husock @LeonHusock · Apr 20

I've seen at least a dozen tweets saying vampires are making a comeback, so send me your old-school ones! They should be creepy, weird, non-Western, and/or decaying. Anything as long as they're not remotely sexy. #MSWL

Did anybody else watch Jackie Chan Adventures growing up? And if so, do you remember the episode where Jade draws a "tattoo" on her leg in sharpie that she copied from a magic book and becomes queen of the Shadowkhan? #MSWL

Hannah Fergesen @HannahFergesen

I want this too! In the same vein, post-dystopian settings. #MSWL twitter.com/leonhusock/sta…

Replying to @HannahFergesen

Yes! Give me something set 100 years after the Hunger Games (just an example, not looking for HG fan-fiction) where all the people who rebelled and overthrew the dystopian government are gone. What is that culture/world like? #MSWL

I'd love to see more books set in a post post-apocalypse, i.e. the world ended but it was a while ago and we've rebuilt, just not to pre-apocalypse standards. @austin_walker and the @Friends_Table crew know what I'm talking about. #MSWL

#MSWL books with characters, especially MCs, who have and love cats and are not the people you usually see in fiction with cats (i.e. extroverts, athletes, men, people in happy relationships, etc.). I'm tired of the way TV & movies code cat owners.

#MSWL Magic doesn't have to be rigidly defined with each person only having set types (e.g. Avatar TLA). People naturally find the things they're good at and like. By the time you're a teen, you might be able to do a bit of magic X but have a real talent for magic Y.

On a related #MSWL note, people tend to think of world-building as being about the physical world itself; its people, its geography and history and mythology. But it's as much about systems and how they work as it is about anything concrete.

I'd love to see someone make up new elements for element-control magic rather than use the classical elements. Not sure what they'd be, but it'd be an interesting change of pace. #MSWL

MC who was a part of but has turned their back on magic/a secret magical world > MC who discovers they secretly have magic/are part of a magical world. #MSWL

So...apparently the greater than sign isn't common knowledge? I just got my second query for "MC discovers they're secretly part of a magical world". So guys: I want the FIRST part of this #MSWL, not the second.
