I'd love to see someone make up new elements for element-control magic rather than use the classical elements. Not sure what they'd be, but it'd be an interesting change of pace. #MSWL

MC who was a part of but has turned their back on magic/a secret magical world > MC who discovers they secretly have magic/are part of a magical world. #MSWL

So...apparently the greater than sign isn't common knowledge? I just got my second query for "MC discovers they're secretly part of a magical world". So guys: I want the FIRST part of this #MSWL, not the second.

anti-#MSWL: I'm not interested in my own nerd nostalgia (nerdstalgia?) projected onto fiction.

Anti-#MSWL: I do not like Holocaust fiction, in pretty much any form. I think there are some things that shouldn't be fictionalized or serve as entertainment. If you send me Holocaust fiction, I will reject it.

The Fifth Element does this well too. It's crazy and whacky and diverse and colorful and, while it has good and bad people in it, it's not overwhelmingly good or bad as a society. twitter.com/LeonHusock/sta…

This all said, if you want to write a dystopian future, I think it's important that it be country/region-specific. Make it clear that there are places in the world that aren't like this. It makes it both more interesting and more plausible. #MSWL

FYI, not every #MSWL I tweet is asking for something as the focal element of a story. A lot of them are for background stuff (e.g. fantasy in a world with total gender equality).

Leon Husock @LeonHusock · 13 Nov 2017

I'm gonna reiterate my #MSWL for epic fantasy worlds inspired by pre-Columbian *North American* Native American society. I don't think I've ever seen even one.

Clarifying an old #MSWL: Rage problems in a MC are only compelling in contemporary because that's where they present a real problem.

FYI, if you can reasonably comp something to just about any Studio Ghibli movie, odds are I'll want to see it. #MSWL

Anti-#MSWL: Retellings of Romeo and Juliet. Give me almost any other Shakespeare play, please. How about Much Ado? I love Much Ado.

YA Fantasy with girls fighting the patriarchy is great, but I also want to see worlds where there is no patriarchy. #MSWL

#MSWL MCs with a rage trigger. I see so many who meekly get beat up; I want someone who goes berserk. Doesn't matter if they still lose.
