TLDR: Iām not here to shame querying writers for worrying about exceptions to The Rules-on the contrary, Shmagents Are Out There: TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS. If you feel like an agent is acting shady, most querying authors donāt feel safe going public. So letās talk about this stuff.Seriously, #amquerying #amwriting #askagent #pubtips #querytip #agentlife letās get as many votes on these as possible. I feel like itās important for us to show new writers that they DO have the right to ask questions of industry professionals.

Just a reminder, if youāre STILL trying to query my by email instead of following my VERY CLEAR agency submission guidelines and submitting through Query Manager, I will not be reviewing or responding to your query. Sorry, those are the rules! #QueryTip

Literary Agent
Quick reminder: although I am currently open for unsolicited queries, that does NOT mean I am open to queries for genres I do not rep, queries for unfinished work, or queries that begin with "Dear Agent" or "To Whom it May Concern." This has been an Evergreen #QueryTip.

I'm just saying, it would be nice if we could all siphon the confidence of a middle-aged white man who begins his query with any variation of "Hey Agent, today is your lucky day. I'm about to make you rich!" #QueryTip

Attention: I have now gone through all of my emailed queries from 2017. I will reopen to new queries at the end of January. Please note that from now on, I will only review submissions sent through Query Manager. Happy 2018! #MSWL #AgentTip #QueryTip #TeamCorvisiero

As the great Kaylee Davis once said, the label of "literary fiction" is one you don't want to give yourself. All too often, agents see new writers use this label "to justify either word count or ego." Neither are good first impressions, IMO. #QueryTip

#QueryTip If your #DvPit premise centers the experience of a POC, LGBT, woman, veteran, assault survivor etc. and your only personal experience/background with this experience is theoretical, please rethink your life choices and leave my inbox alone. Thank you. #OwnVoices

Literary Agent
#QueryTip Because our agency has a "rejection from one agent = rejection from all" for submissions (unless otherwise specified), I have my own policy that multiple/simultaneous subs to my fellow agents don't get a personal response/rejection. Sorry! (Note: When in doubt, ask.)

Confession: whenever I hit send on a detailed query response, I brace myself for a negative reaction. Most writers say they want to know why agents pass, but in practice, a lot of people don't accept your reasons and/or resent you for telling the truth. Am I alone here? #QueryTip

PSA: My end of year goal is to get through all of the queries in my CLA query email inbox. As of 2018, I will only be considering queries submitted through our new Query Manager system. Please keep an eye on this thread for updates when I reopen for submissions. Thanks! #QueryTip

There is NO reason to be nervous. Take a deep breath, and start with what matters most: the heart of your story.

One of my biggest #AgentBeefs is NOT stupid questions, but questions that it would take Google one step and two seconds to answer. #querytip

One sure way to get rejected, for ANY THING (query, job opportunity, date, etc.) is to take the "anything will do" approach. #QueryTip

How your query is deleted:
1. Emailed directly to me, uninvited
2. Using the term "fiction novel"
3. Exclusive submission, unasked

"If youāre looking for a polished product, better [reject/delete this], because you're not for me." Done and done. #QueryTip #RejectedQuery

Long preambles about why I, the agent, should consider your query above all others is a waste of your story's time. Also, mine. #QueryTip

I know this has been said millions of times, but starting out your query with a "What would you do if" question is not great. #QueryTip
