VP of Martin Lit + kid lit agent. Optimist, lover of things lovely, crooked smiler. French-Peruvian-American living in Singapore for a bit! Mama to 🌺✨
A book I need as a parent but doesn't exist to my satisfaction so I'm going to add it to my #mswl with the hopes of one day representing it! Please send me a non-lame, super clever, commercial picture or board book for toddlers transitioning from a crib to a bed.
Here are my two first super specific #mswl of 2020! (1) A picture book about the golden ratio. I hated math as a kid but golden rectangle + where it's appeared in history fascinated me. (2) An MG novel featuring a "third culture" kid. As a current ex pat, I know these kids!
I had 2 crazy weeks worth of editor meetings in NYC! Here are some repeat asks I heard from editors: #mswl
- PBs that work well for holidays but r not holiday specific (eg book with bunny protag that works for Easter)
- Commercial, accessible math-themed picture books...
One type of #nf book I'm always looking for are focused histories for #mg or #ya readers. Like SALT in the adult market. Topic has to resonate with kids + the history/science/pop culture behind it has to be fascinating & fun. Graphic could work here too #gn. #mswl
Loving being back open to queries! The genres I'm most excited to review rn are: (1) MG of any kind; (2) Nonfiction MG or YA graphic novels; (3) Narrative YA or MG nonfiction and (4) Young graphic novels (think chapter book age) See my #mswl on my site cleliagore.com/2019/10/15/fal…
I'm excited to be accepting queries again! Check out my latest + greatest #mswl. My #1 interest is #MG at the moment of all kinds and I'm also eager for #MG and #YA nonfiction including of the #GN variety!
Clelia Gore @MadmoiselleClelHi all! With apologies, I'm closed to unsolicited submissions effective today for a little while. Exceptions: industry referrals, attendees of conferences where I was faculty, participants of contests/events that I took part + personal requests. I expect to reopen in the fall.
I’ll also add that I’ll still accept queries that very clearly fit any of my recent #mswl requests. Except the holiday book one—I receive too many queries on that one.
I grew up in the NJ town where suffragette Elizabeth Cady Stanton lived. A gorgeous house I still drive by every time I visit. I’d love to rep a story involving her—a fresh, angle since she’s been covered before in kid lit. But would be a lovely way to honor my hometown! #mswl
I'm intrigued by the e-sports world now that I have two close friends who work in it. I'd love to see any YA or kids books, fiction or nonfiction, related to e-sports in my query inbox. Deep knowledge of e-sports phenomenon required #mswl
Deleted last tweet + rewrote so I'm clearer: I'm ticking lots of agent goals off this year re: types of projects I always wanted to rep (yay!). Another goal is to rep a very commercial Christmas or Halloween PICTURE book. Author-illustrs preferred! Whose got one for me?! #mswl
I'd love to rep more graphic novels for the younger set -- 6-8 yo readership, themes like friendship, family, pets/animals, nonfiction would be cool too. Human protagonists or more fanciful and fantastical works too! Ready to be delighted! #mswl #gn
Growing up, my mom was a doctor at the UN. Her wonderful friends were from all over the world--India, Ghana, Germany, Greece, South Africa, Spain. I also loved when she'd bring home world stories from the UN bookstore. This all fostered my love for international stories! #mswl
I’m half-Peruvian and would love to represent more children’s and YA authors and illustrators of Peruvian heritage—and Peruvians who live in Peru are great too! Does anyone know any Peruvian artists in instagram I can check out? #MSWL
I want more YA nonfiction! #mswl A deep dive into a really interesting part of history that has modern resonance; an investigation into a recent news event; a cool historical anthology; a topical memoir; books by real inspiring teens; how-to books & guide books. Send to me!
Here's an #mswl challenge. I'd love to rep a PB inspired by media literacy. Specifically, I'd love to see a commercial story related to knowing the difference between primary and secondary sources (i.e. facts vs. anecdotes)--metaphorically probably.
Currently living for this modern day graphic novel retelling of LITTLE WOMEN: MEG, JO, BETH AND AMY. I'd LOVE to see a GRAPHIC NOVEL retelling of something classic but resonant for kids or teens--modern or otherwise. #mswl
