#Writers, always be sure to check the agent's website before following directions from a magazine or interview. Their profile will always have the most up-to-date submission instructions. #amquerying #querytip #amediting #amwriting

Typo for the day: Dust mites or Dust motes? #amwriting #amediting #amquerying #querytip

mites - insects like lice

motes - specks or particles

Note to writers: If you ever have a line of dialogue that is simply "Yeah"—DELETE IT. Useless words that are often portrayed with body language or considered rhetorical anyway. #amediting #amwriting #querytip #amquerying

#Writers, STOP PITCHING TO AGENTS ON TWITTER. I get you want to gauge their interest, but you need to query through the appropriate channels. This is not a place to cheat the line. We post likes and dislikes, but do not reject and accept your novel. #querytip #amquerying

So far, I have 5 events scheduled for 2018 and looking to add more. Will I see any of you? #amwriting #amediting #querytip #amquerying #Conferences facebook.com/pg/LiteraryKat…

#querytip I LOVE when writers mention my Pinterest visual #MSWL in a query. It's so fun learning who identifies with what image.

Kaitlyn Johnson @kaitylynne13 · Jan 3

If you want your book to even remotely interest me, do NOT insult my work as an agent thus far and insinuate none of it can possibly make a difference until I come upon YOUR book. #querytip

Offensive, rude, small-minded, (continues the list to infinity)...😡

#querytip Learn your hyphens:

1) a fifty-five-year-old
2) a fifty-five-year-old man
3) a group of ten- to twelve-year-olds

No hyphen:

4) ten years old
5) ten years of age

You wrote a series. That's awesome. BUT, only focus on Book #1 in the query.

You can mention it's intended to be the first of a series, but the agent/editor is only focusing on THAT story. If necessary, they'll ask you about the series details later. #querytip

Don't tell me the book themes - loss, love, healing; give me the character, the conflict, and the stakes. When in doubt RESEARCH #querytip

Kaitlyn Johnson @kaitylynne13 · Jan 3

So, the first six queries tonight are all one big smashed paragraph that barely tells me anything about the book. People, if you do zero research you will have zero success. #querytip

@CorvisieroLit is officially open to queries again! Check out the agent bios and be sure to submit to our Query Manager profiles! #amquerying #querytip corvisieroagency.com/representation…

Be sure to check your inbox settings. If I try to respond to your query four times, and it rejects it every time, I have to simply delete it. There's nothing I can do to fix it 🙁 #amagenting #querytip

It's not a "fictional writing project". It's a book. A manuscript. A novel. Own your blood, sweat, and ink. #querytip

Kaitlyn Johnson @kaitylynne13 · 20 Dec 2017

#querytip It's nice to know your motivation for writing the book, or what exactly you're looking for in an agent. But save these details for THE CALL. Don't waste your precious space in a query. Agents want to learn about your book, first and foremost.

Kaitlyn Johnson @kaitylynne13 · 20 Dec 2017

Just opened 6 queries in a row that began with rhetorical questions. Please, don't do this. It leaves the query feeling hook-less (my dumb word for uninteresting) and takes up space. #querytip
