NEW #MSWL: a magical MG mystery a la THE WOLF OF CAPE FEN by @julianalbrandt. The mystery is deeply personal to the character, the worldbuilding is excellent, and the magic serves the mystery plot. It also doesn't hurt that the writing is gorgeous. I want more like this!
SYFY FANGRRLS @SyfyfangrrlsTHAT WIZARD, IS READING A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME BY STEPHEN HAWKING, AND USING MAGIC TO STIR HIS TEACUP LIKE WHAT ARE MAGICAL PHYSICS i have been thinking about this since 2004 #HPFG pic.twitter.com/QQDfBnM3np
Stephanie Stein @stephlysteinI turned 30 (!!!) last weekend, an occasion I'm seizing to share my #MSWL this year:
- sweeping YA romance
- ✨queer magic✨
- savvy, commercial MG fantasy
- joyful queer & POC stories
- & POC authors with something to say
- emotional contemporary MG
- cozy af graphic novels
Charlie Stross @cstrossFantasy worldbuilding props if there's a quasi-illegal alternate currency made out of very small persistent spells created in bulk in sweatshops by apprentice sorcerers, that is causing an inflationary bubble as it gradually depletes the global mana supply all magic relies on. twitter.com/redtwitdown/st…
Rena *nobody sees the bones* Rossner @renarossnerI would really really love to find an adult upmarket, literary novel to work on. Something that will make me cry. Bonus points for magical realism. #MSWL
Me too. 😈 #mswl
Brit Elisabet Hvide Busse @bhvideHonestly I want more political fantasy about mothers as heroes orchestrating the rise of their children to power. It happens in history all the time. These women’s stories deserve to be told with magic and hecking dragons.
Ooo this. I want this. #mswl
Lauren Spieller @laurenspiellerNow that it's out in the world, I can officially say:
Fantasies like THE HAZEL WOOD by @mimi_albert are on my forever and ever #MSWL. pic.twitter.com/9AzJM2pMMT
I love fairytales, the darker and more dangerous the better.
I love stories about girls with troubled pasts.
Stories about magic, and its cost.
Take me on a journey that makes me never want to come home.
Brian Geffen @Brian_Geffen#MSWL: Lyrical, gorgeously-written YA fantasy with lush worldbuilding and fascinating magic that can be comped to the masterpiece that is #StrangetheDreamer. twitter.com/Brian_Geffen/s…
Lauren Spieller @laurenspiellerokay this is a mixed bag but:
Can I just make this a #MSWL? B/c a murderous forest full of forbidden dark magic with an LGBTQ+ main character sounds like a KILLER book
