5. MG with a Big Hook! I like funny books and magical books and sad books and creepy books. In other words, I'm open to any genre, as long as it has a fun, snappy premise that'll get a kid's attention!
ellen @ellencormierMG or YA speculative fiction that's as sharp, funny, and layered as #RussianDoll. Something that uses the speculative element to say something, not just as a cool hook #mswl
Send this to meeee! #mswl
Writers, I have a few kidlit #mswl items I'd love to see in 2019!
-funny, contemp YA a la WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI, HOT DOG GIRL, HERETICS ANONYMOUS
-LatinX characters! Please!
-Grounded dark fantasy, a la SAWKILL GIRLS, THE DEVOURING GRAY, THE RAVEN BOYS
This is the most obvious #MSWL ever, but...
I want books like To All The Boys I've Loved Before, in YA and Adult. This means:
--family B plots
Let's do this!
Adult Contemporary/Romance Writers! I would like to sign a project that reads like Bridget Jones/Crazy Rich Asians/The Hating GAme--funny, fast paced, and clued in to social questions. #MSWL
The Mary Sue @TheMarySue"What We Do In the Shadows" Is Officially Coming to the United States With Series Order at FX themarysue.com/what-we-do-in-… pic.twitter.com/CFi3fqTPz2
I want a vampire book that reads like this show. Funny, sweet, and from the POV of the vampire, *not the victim*--or at least not the victim alone. Another great example is BLOOD SUCKING FIENDS: A LOVE STORY by Christopher Moore. #MSWL
I'm opening to queries again on 1/1/18. Here's what's at the top of my #MSWL for early 2018:
- high concept MG + YA
- #ownvoices projects in all categories
- funny female MCs
-a voicey, genre-bending Adult SFF series
