I'd also love a serious MG fantasy series...something dark, dangerous, and with a large canvas and great world-building. #mswl

I'm also dying for more fun & high concept middle grade series, like THE SCHOOL FOR GOOD & EVIL, NEVERMOOR, ESCAPE FROM MR. LEMONCELLO'S LIBRARY, MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY, etc. And as in YA, in MG: monsters. #mswl

Also Rebecca Stead's upcoming THE LIST OF THINGS THAT WILL NOT CHANGE is a new favorite. I love its exploration of both regret (see above: a fav topic!) and family identity. #mswl

In middle grade, I really read quite widely. I'm particularly eager to find ambitious, emotional middle grade reads. Some favs include THE THING ABOUT LUCK; THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH; HELLO UNIVERSE; the upcoming FROM THE DESK OF ZOE WASHINGTON. #mswl

Regardless of genre, some themes and subjects I love: family history/family identity; regret; sibling relationships; break-ups/romance gone sideways; extracurricular activities (such as sports, plays, mock trial), stories about letting go of shame, etc. #mswl

YA contemporary will ALWAYS be a go-to for me. I particularly love stories that deal with heartache but lead hope-first, where the optimism always bleeds through. #mswl

I'd love to find a YA paranormal (romance or not) that feels fresh and has epic external stakes & high internal drama (and I remain partial in particular to vampires and werewolves). I love monsters of all stripes & would love something like Rick Yancey's MONSTRUMOLOGIST. #mswl

In YA I'd love to find a thriller; something that is a compulsive page-turner & smart exploration of the ways we form meaning & identity during our teen years (which includes, surely, some number of secrets!) & how we examine & challenge the ideas & beliefs we've inherited. #mswl

Among the many things I’m excited for in 2020? Working with new clients! One of the best parts of my job is the magic of falling in love with a writer’s story for the 1st time & in 2020 I'm looking to discover works across a wide range of MG & YA genres. A 2020 #MSWL thread...

At the top of my #MSWL this year: AMBITION. I'm looking for books that take big swings at big feelings and bigger questions, with writing that makes me stop in my tracks and whisper, holy $%!*. Let's do this, 2020.SAME. I would love to find big, ambitious YA and MG -- whether contemporary, fantasy, historical, you name it! #MSWL

#amquerying writers, I'm going to dedicate time over the holidays to read submissions, so now is a great time to query!I'm eager to find more middle grade, from contemporary standalones & illustrated MG to sweeping adventure & fantasy series. I'd love more YA contemp & grounded YA fantasy or "twist of magic" stories, too. And YA paranormal (I'm here for your vampires & werewolves) #mswl

I love that point where an author has made things very obvious to the reader about what will be a big revelation but the MC very believably hasn’t figured it out yet and you are just PAWING through pages until you get to where it all clicks.cr: KILLING NOVEMBER
SAME! #mswl

Also on my #mswl always is YA contemporary, including mysteries, thrillers, and contemporary with a touch of magic or a speculative element. I particularly love grounded stories with magic such as THE RAVEN BOYS.

Literary Agent
Still high on my #MSWL is (you guessed it!) middle grade. I'd especially love a really sweeping, high-stakes & action-packed fantasy/contemporary fantasy, and/or something with cozy-magic. And I'm always on the hunt for MG contemporary!

@petejknapp What does that mean? Books that take place in autumn? Or books that have autmn-esque themes?mostly it means I love this weather -- but definitely autumnal books, witchy books, books that feel either cozy or spooky all are on my #mswl!

Literary Agent
This autumnal weather today is definitely on my #mswl please and thank you.

#MSWL - I would love a wilderness story in YA or MG (but especially MG because wilderness stories were so a part of my love of reading at that age).

Literary Agent
Oh, and very big on my #mswl as I await cooler weather: YA and MG that feels somehow autumnal! Give me book-form crispy leaves and spiced cider (spiked or not), please. I love good, cozy stories.
