Stephanie Stein @stephlysteinAt the top of my #MSWL this year: AMBITION. I'm looking for books that take big swings at big feelings and bigger questions, with writing that makes me stop in my tracks and whisper, holy $%!*. Let's do this, 2020.
SAME. I would love to find big, ambitious YA and MG -- whether contemporary, fantasy, historical, you name it! #MSWL
Peter Knapp @petejknapp#amquerying writers, I'm going to dedicate time over the holidays to read submissions, so now is a great time to query!
I'm eager to find more middle grade, from contemporary standalones & illustrated MG to sweeping adventure & fantasy series. I'd love more YA contemp & grounded YA fantasy or "twist of magic" stories, too. And YA paranormal (I'm here for your vampires & werewolves) #mswl
Also on my #mswl always is YA contemporary, including mysteries, thrillers, and contemporary with a touch of magic or a speculative element. I particularly love grounded stories with magic such as THE RAVEN BOYS.
Still high on my #MSWL is (you guessed it!) middle grade. I'd especially love a really sweeping, high-stakes & action-packed fantasy/contemporary fantasy, and/or something with cozy-magic. And I'm always on the hunt for MG contemporary!
I'd also like a MG realistic/contemporary series. Something like Jason Reynold's TRACK series. I'd also be super excited to find brilliant literary standalone in MG. Something like WHEN YOU REACH ME or THE THING ABOUT LUCK. #mswl
Peter Knapp @petejknapp#mswl 2019: literary standalone stories, such as THE THING ABOUT LUCK or COUNTING BY SEVENS, or THE THING ABOUT JELLYFISH (8/13)
#mswl for 2019 definitely includes more contemporary middle grade standalones!
Peter Knapp @petejknapp#mswl 2019: Sweet, smart YA contemporary love stories: think TO ALL THE BOYS I’VE LOVED BEFORE, WHAT IF IT’S US, SIMON VS., EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU, etc. (3/13)
...but also anti-love stories, break-up stories, friendship break-up stories. Give me all the explorations of relationships of all types, please! #mswl
Peter Knapp @petejknappHere are just SOME of the things on my #mswl in 2019 (but I of course often fall in love with the thing I didn't know I was looking for)... (1/13)
#mswl 2019: Smart, hold-no-punches YA contemporary. One of my favorite titles of 2018 was SADIE by Courtney Summers so if you’ve written something like that, yes please! Other favorite recent contemporary YA: Nina LaCour’s WE ARE OKAY, Angie Thomas’s THE HATE U GIVE. (2/13)
