@bookendslit When writing a series, do you wait to write books 2 and 3 until after getting an agent because of editing/revision problems or just pump them out and let prospective agents know you have those books nearly ready too? Does that make an agent happy or scared? 😂 #askagent

While it is nice to show range, you should send what you feel is strongest, ultimately. If you're good at funny Pb's and they're your best mss, send those!

1) straight to the hook for your story
2) name of story, word count, intended age group/ type of book
3) why we are submitting to you (the agent)

This is such a hot topic over here, everyone has different opinions. I think you have to do what works best for you. Saying hello and why you submit first could never hurt.

If you're getting requests, your query and idea are definitely catching eyes and hooking agents, but it's likely there is something off about the execution!

@bookendslit @kaitylynne13 I sent out 17 queries and received 5 requests. Ultimately nothing came from this. Is it safe to say I write awesome query letters lol??? Debating my MS and wondering if the idea is good but the writing not so much? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Depending on what their protocol is on the website (response guidelines/no answer means no query). You can continue to wait and nudge them periodically if you really want them to consider, or you can withdraw your query.

Not as Often as we'd like. Once our wishlists go out there, they tend to go to a bunch of places, and it can be hard to keep track. Twitter, and our website is best for up-to-date information. (though QT updates with our preferences on QM so that should be up to date)

@bookendslit #AskAgent Can one query TOO many agents? (Not at once, of course.) Despite being on four MS subs and being told my writing is great/strong/lovely, it hasn't found the right agent. I realize it's subjective on all sides, but how many MS rejects would you endure before moving on?

I think this is entirely up to how many agents you think would be a good fit for your manuscript. Once you have no other agents you'd like to work with, I'd say it's time to move on.

If a picture book is dependent on the scene and has <200 words, is there a best way to format the MS (e.g., necessary art notes bracketed, text in line vs. new line break per new scene, potential page numbers indicated etc.)?

Interesting question. Everyone tends to do this a bit differently. You can certainly work it as each line being a new scene, or as each line break being a new spread w/ page numbers included. I would bracket the art notes for ease of reading.
