Jerusha @ICT_Pinup

@bookendslit How can I know if I am writing women’s fiction or literary fiction about women?
#AskAgent
Replying to @ICT_Pinup

There's not a ton of a different. But it comes down to the voice and tone, whether it's more commercial or literary.

Seann McQuarter @McQuarterWriter

@bookendslit #AskAgent In your last video you encourage voice in queries, yet so many agent’s forums insist on strict professionalism, insisting they can spot what they’re looking for. Is there a happy medium? Also, are blurbs from bonafide published authors helpful?
Replying to @McQuarterWriter

There is a happy medium. I think your opening chapters and actual *letter* part of the query are strictly professional, but whether you like it or not, your voice is going to come through a bit in your blurb. I also think reading blurbs from other authors/published books are 1/2

Sam Zott @sam_zott

#AskBookEnds If you really liked a manuscript by a pb author-illustrator but you didn’t like the pictures, would you:
A) Reject the whole thing
or
B) Try to bring in another illustrator?
Replying to @sam_zott

It's likely we'd reject. Most illustrators would rather illustrate their own work. But if one agent doesn't connect to your art, that's not to say all won't! Keep Querying. #AskAgent

This is a great question. It can be a hard thing to do, but if you're well read in the genre, you'd have a better sense of this. for instance, knowing what is and isn't acceptable or selling in SFF would help make a more informed decision for you. #AskAgent

Stacy Houston @Stacy_SMH

@bookendslit How long is too long to wait for a reply on a full request? It has been over 16 months now. I’ve checked back with the agent and was told hopefully soon back in April. I don’t want to keep bothering her, but how long should I wait? #AskBookEnds
Replying to @Stacy_SMH

That's a very long time. You shouldn't wait that long. If it's with us, then feel free to withdraw from that agent and query another at BookEnds. If it's with someone else, you can nudge again, but if it's not working then you can always withdraw and go elsewhere #AskAgent

How important is Twitter, really?

#askagent @bookendslit
Replying to @avaunlocked

A platform isn't 100% necessary when querying agents, but it becomes necessary when you have a deal. So while it's a plus during querying stages, it's something that can be worked on with an agent or editor. #AskBookEnds #AskBookEndsJr #AskAgent
