There are other great examples but I'll leave it at that for now; you get the idea. I'd love to see any mashups like these, where you could almost fit it into a variety of genres. This goes for YA & adult, btw.

I am still thinking about how THE PERFECTION & BLACK SWAN so creepily captured what it's like to take a passion too seriously. (I was a ballet dancer for 18 years, & BLACK SWAN was shockingly familiar.) I'd love a YA/adult horror novel about a dark obsession with the arts. #MSWL

Ditto. I think of The Yellow Wallpaper all the time, & reread it once a year or so. Maybe it’s just so perfect as it is? But I’d LOVE to see a novel inspired by it. #MSWL for sure.

Since posting my #MSWL the other day, I’ve gotten a lot of queries for things I do not rep, which are on my page at jdlit.com with my sub guidelines. I am not looking for hard sci-fi, epic fantasy, or political or military thrillers.

-My long shot: Still looking for a literary epic multigenerational family saga with magic realism set in the South. A Southern 100 Years of Solitude. Does it exist? Did you write it?!

-Nonfiction (kids/adult): Pop science projects, biographies about lesser-known figures

-Literary fiction (adult): I haven't stopped thinking about HISTORY OF WOLVES since I read it, so, lit fic about complex family relationships, growing up/aging, mental health, darker topics. Also, since it's election year & my anxiety will be running high, hopeful topics.

-Horror (YA/adult): Psychological horror, body horror, hauntings, & other weird/new/different horror. (Also, I am NOT looking for zombies/werewolves/vampires/other creatures at this time.)

-Domestic thrillers (adult): I love them, & I never get these! Please send me your domestic/psychological thrillers; I vastly prefer them over any other kind & would love to find one with an amazing hook. One of my recent favorites was JP Delaney's THE GIRL BEFORE.

TAOM is a teen coming-of-age story—but the Earth’s rotation is slowing. In THE DREAMERS, shifting family dynamics are painted on the canvas of a town quarantined bc of a sleeping sickness.

Kind of TWILIGHT ZONE? BLACK MIRROR? THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES?

Lastly, one exception to all this is that I consume domestic thrillers like candy, especially those with wild twists. I loved The Girl Before. Please send me your domestic thrillers.
