Also, looking for commercial psychological & domestic thrillers in the vein of Ruth Ware & Lisa Jewell.
Adult fiction: Literary and upmarket projects, speculative fiction, horror, mystery, psychological thrillers, domestic thrillers, magical realism/fabulism, Southern gothic, rom-coms
YA fiction: Horror, mystery, thriller, grounded stories with a speculative element, magical realism/fabulism, Southern gothic, rom-coms (heavy on the com)
Adult & YA: Mysteries & thrillers that unfold in isolated settings - a bed & breakfast, ski lodge, cruise ship, cabin in the woods, boarding school, etc.
Adult: Horror of all stripes - psychological, body horror, folk horror, gothic, occult, hauntings, genre blends: horror/mystery, horror/thriller, etc. I gravitate more toward literary & upmarket writing than commercial.
YA: Same as above, basically!
6. Domestic/psychological thrillers in YA & adult
I'd love to see in my queries:
- Atmospheric, woodsy, lush horror like THE YEAR OF THE WITCHING (YA, A)
- Domestic/psychological thrillers by BIPOC authors (A)
- Scavenger hunts (MG, YA, A)
- Eerie spec fic in isolated settings (CATHERINE HOUSE, THE WATER CURE)
When I reopen to queries in Jan., my wishlist is going to look different than it does now. In adult fic, I am really going to want to see upmarket fiction & book club fiction, literary fic, rom-coms, mystery, domestic & psychological thrillers, horror, & grounded speculative fic.
I’d love to see dark & twisty domestic thrillers by BIPOC authors.
🧼 Lauren Spieller 🖐 @laurenspiellerI’d love to see more non-white thriller and suspense writers in my inbox! #mswl
Second this. I consume domestic thrillers on audio like candy. I love them, but the subgenre is overwhelmingly white. I’d love to see queries from non-white authors of twisty domestic thrillers. #MSWL
Oh, hello! At long last, my #MSWL page is up! I will try to keep this as up to date as possible. (I also regularly tweet things I'm looking for here.) Check it out:

My @WritersDigest New Agent Alert is up! Check it out to see my #MSWL & how to sub to me.
Erin Clyburn @erin_clyburnI'm about to reopen to queries, but before I do, a little #MSWL thread of what I'm hoping to see in my inbox in the coming months:
-Domestic thrillers (adult): I love them, & I never get these! Please send me your domestic/psychological thrillers; I vastly prefer them over any other kind & would love to find one with an amazing hook. One of my recent favorites was JP Delaney's THE GIRL BEFORE.
Erin Clyburn @erin_clyburnAs the holidays approach, some news:
I'll be closing to queries Dec. 1 - 31. I have a pile of queries & subs to catch up on, so please add yours to it before Dec. 1 if you wish!
#amquerying #amagenting #WritingCommunity
While I'm at it, a quick #MSWL of things I would love to see right now:
- Big-hearted contemporary MG
- MG horror
- A domestic thriller
- YA thriller/horror
- YA/A speculative/light sci-fi (think Black Mirror)
- MG/YA/A with a culinary theme
Lastly, one exception to all this is that I consume domestic thrillers like candy, especially those with wild twists. I loved The Girl Before. Please send me your domestic thrillers.
-I consume thriller audiobooks like candy. Would love to see upmarket thrillers, particularly starring kickass women solving mysteries.
