#MSWL I'm also looking for unique and unusual NF pieces; craft and recipe books aren't the best fits for me, but other kinds of "how to" that are more out of the mainstream could be of interest. I'm not specifically looking for memoir or personal essay unless it's really unique.

So I just saw that there’s a train stuck in rural SC for like 29hrs & the passengers are all stuck & this is terrible & tragic & also would make a great backdrop to a thriller/horror novel 😬 #MSWL (of course I hope it ends happily for the real life folks it’s happening to ❤️)

WHITE HORSE? Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Crisis. Awful father disappears his own daughter and no bothers to investigate. Not even her friends or family. The monster? The crisis itself.

Okay, that’s it for horror. Hope it’s help.

Now onto nonfiction!

THE ONLY GOOD INDIANS? No monster without those kids breaking, forgetting, discarding their tribe’s tradition. It’s modern day people scoffing at what their ancestors held holy.

Sure, there were monsters but only monsters driven by humanity’s own misdeeds. There would be no horror in ALL THE WHITE SPACES without the sins and guilt those explorers brought with them. Even the fact they traveled there showed their dark desires.

Forget serial killers and the Albert Fishes. Show me SOFT AND QUIET. The horror everyday people do. Examples? WHITE HORSE, ALL THE WHITE SPACES, THE ONLY GOOD INDIANS.

What makes the best horror? The unknown. We don’t need monsters that go bump in the night because we are the monsters. Show me the evil darkness of humanity. What do I actually mean?

Transgender, LGBTQIA horror.

Some fave authors (besides my own!) are Stephen Graham Jones, Sheridan Le Fanu, Octavia Butler, Alma Katsu, Erika T. Wurth, Waubgeshig Rice, Cherie Dimaline.

I’ve been feeling survival horror in the vein of ALL THE WHITE SPACES. Give me isolation, hauntings, nature vs humanity, cli-fi, upmarket. Think EVENT HORIZON without the sci-fi. IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS is another good one. Also, horror from marginalized voices: #mswl

Still would really love a charismatic con artist who is not a man. The kind of dastardly, charming fictional character you fall in love with, but would never want to be around in real life. #mswl

When I say I want complicated sibling relationships, I don't mean like there is a sibling and some minor conflict. I mean like... sisters who kill for each other, brothers who are spy vs spy, siblings saving a failing business, etc

Those are just kinda holes in my list I'd like to fill.

Still would love to find a really authentic small (4 way stop kind!) town setting, where the setting has a huge impact on the characters and the plot
