Taking my own advice, I am asking for middle grade that will make me laugh! I've said it before, if you've got the comedic timing of Mitch Hedburg or a particularly funny art style, please send me those funny middle grades! 🤣🤣🤣 #MSWL

I am technically closed to submissions right now, but I can't get over how challenging it was for one of our pubs to find an African/diaspora picture book artist (they didn't). So now my door is wide open to African artists because that is frankly absurd. #MSWL #kidlit #art

Been on the hunt for author-illustrators to bring to Knopf who have fresh stories to tell and diverse styles. New perspectives, art that makes my heart sing, irresistible characters. This is the top of my vision board for 2020. Universe - and agents - let’s make it happen! #mswl

-More nonfiction in MG and YA, esp science, art, history, etc. NF graphic novels are great here too.

-I'd love to see more mysteries, in MG, YA, and adult. I'm really into Veronica Speedwell and Veronica Mars.

-More intergenerational stories in MG, YA, and SFF. #MSWL

#mswl for my nonfiction writing friends:

*I'm currently devouring Patrick Radden Keefe's SAY NOTHING & would love to find a book in this vein. History or history / true crime that reads like a thriller.

*PopScience that takes a deep dive into a subject. Think SPYING ON WHALES.

Books that investigate class, race, or identity in America. Deirdre Mask's THE ADDRESS BOOK looks at these constructs from an original and fascinating angle.

Always books on books, art, or material culture. I'm itching to read Kassia St. Clair's THE GOLDEN THREAD. #mswl

What I'm looking for in 2020:

* Graphic novelists & picture book auth/illustrators with tremendous wit, heart, style and flair - my taste in art tends toward the quirky, textured, European, with a strong line and lots of movement - may BE digital, but doesn't LOOK digital #mswl

Recently started listening to Lucinda Riley's Seven Sisters series in audio, so am naturally updating my #MSWL to ask for big, emotional, multigenerational, historical/dual timeline stories with a strong thread of history/art/astrology or similar:

rather than scream more, this is a good opportunity to say that I'd love to work on a book of deeply researched cultural criticism about taste, the value of art, and how both are historically and intrinsically wrapped up in the erasure of disenfranchised voices. #MSWL

Listening to Steve Reich (thanks @TommyVierbuchen--this is amazing) is reminding me of my kookiest current #mswl: a TRICK MIRROR-like--fun! But brilliant! But crucially fun!--cultural crit book in appreciation of circularity and stasis in contemporary music/art/literature.
