I feel like I've come across a lot of people lately who think "SFF for adults" is supposed to mean "sophisticated allegorical commentary on the human condition." Like, I just want to see idiots past puberty trying and failing to adult, with swords.Hard #MSWL THIS IS WHAT I WANT OUT OF MY SFF

Ooooh LOVE this question Kayte! If someone can write me the literary equivalent of About Time (the movie), I'm 100% sold... 😍 twitter.com/KayteNunn/stat…Had to chime in and add this to my agenting #MSWL... it is my favorite film. My wedding was even loosely About Time themed 🙈. Someone write this book, and then please send my way!
This is so cool! #STEM #MSWL

Adult: I'm technically open to it, because who knows what I'll find, but it's a super hard sell. I'm only interested in #ownvoices projects that walk the line of being funny and lighthearted while still adding to a larger sociopolitical conversation.

YA: the MC needs to have a strange interest that teaches me something new. I don't do super heavy (sexual assault, addiction, abuse, suicide), and I like to laugh. Not a good fit for sad w/o humor. Quirky voice gets me every time. I love female friendship/empowerment and spooks.

For MG fiction, my interests fall heavily on the action-adventure scale, especially stories informed by non-western mythology and folklore. Loud and funny is a better fit than quiet and contemplative. In nonfiction, I love topics that kids—and I—can geek out about.

If you're thinking of querying me but don't know if your project is a fit, here's some #MSWL framing that should help:For PB, I want 1) content that looks seriously at sociopolitical realities that kids face, ultimately ending with empowerment and hope, 2) stories that teach readers about a new place and/or culture, 3) nonfiction that delights and inspires. Only interested in #ownvoices.
