In non-fiction, if you have a strong platform or the credentials to support your writing, I am open to most ideas. A strong narrative voice that will draw me is especially important.
Lastly, I have a wide-range of adult stories I'm seeking--many are the same from last year. BUT I am really into finding a paranormal romance and romantic suspense in 2023. My steam level varies, but the plot matters more than the sexiness. I don't rep erotical.
Teens who run illegal gambling rings--cards or sports--is an interest. Love when teens are smart, make their own money, and fool everyone!
I've been searching for a YA werewolf story FOREVER.
So many teens are reading a particular author, but I really would LOVE an authentic teen contemporary romance. The emotional rollercoaster. The disapproving parents. Messy. Concentual. Sweet. NOT written for adults--think the new season of Ginny and Georgia.
I am looking for a lot of YA this year! Here's a little more of what I would love to see...
My middle grade list is fairly full, so I am only looking for: magical realism, contemporary, or mystery series (or with series possibility).
In all age categories, whether angsty or joyful, I will especially focus on stories written by traditionally underrepresented creators.
This is the first time I am open to Picture Books! I am selectively looking for: whimsical and funny stories, especially those that showcase diversity. Family and friendship themes are my favorite. It's a plus if you are an author/illustrator, but not a must.
I reopen to queries TOMORROW! I have my fresh new #MSWL is posted, but I figured I'd give a little more explanation of what I am super excited to see in 2023.

Non-fiction from those with a strong platform, especially written by BIPOC creators. Can be a unique perspective regarding art, science, food, current issues, mental health, etc.
Joyful stories written by diverse authors in any genre and age category.
Angsty YA with messy characters—these are my favorite! I want to see teens make mistakes, learn from them, and move on.
Friendship stories—break up, make up, fall in love…any of the above, any age category. There DOES NOT need to be a romantic element.
I am DYING for a kitchen/restaurant story—aka The Bear, so if you have something unique with this setting…please send it my way.
