Hi, agent friends :) It's about that time: New Year, New #MSWL 📚✒️
I edit picture books, middle grade novels, and YA novels/nf, as well as select graphic novels across genres.
I prioritize intersectional stories that center BIPOC characters & their unique, varied experiences.

Anyone else a fan of BATTLE ROYALE? 🔪🩸🔥 Takako Chigusa was inspiration for the iconic Gogo Yubari in KILL BILL and she lives in my head rent free...
basically, agents pls send me a bloodthirsty YA about a girl who gets revenge after being wronged #YA #MSWL

Two weeks since I finished #NeflixKingdom, and I STILL can't stop thinking about it. I'm so in the mood for a YA fantasy with sociopolitical commentary, a lush non-Western historical setting, well-rounded characters, and ZOMBIES. Lots and lots of zombies.
Trisha de Guzman @trishadegLike many of us in these strange times, I’ve been taking comfort in books. And it’s made me think of the kinds of stories I want to champion.
Most of this won’t be a surprise, but for what it’s worth, here’s my current #MSWL:
- high-concept, darkly comic modern fables with literary writing and crossover appeal like THE PISCES or GEEK LOVE
- eerie and atmospheric fantasies inspired by non-Western mythology
- sweet contemporary rom-coms about QPOC main characters
- contemporary stories that take a tongue-in-cheek approach to deconstructing toxic gender norms
- ripped-from-the headlines contemporary novels with literary writing and whipsmart sociopolitical commentary
another #mswl: a home invasion story with a twist. but the "victim" is an action girl who ends up hunting THEM down because she is way better at surviving than they are #ya #contemporary this is basically the plot of the movie YOU'RE NEXT
#mswl #ya #ownvoices gimme all your monster books. Especially monsters based on non-western legends and folklore. The wendigo! Chupacabra! La llorona! I want to feel uncomfortable and scared and uncomfortably excited to be scared
CAAM @CAAMSony’s Stage 6 Films Plots Sequel To Sundance Sleeper ‘Searching’ starring a @CAAM favorite, John Cho. bit.ly/2Z15mO9
In light of this amazing news, I'd love a gritty, contemporary YA thriller that, like the excellent film SEARCHING, utilizes the unique quirks and challenges that technology/social media have introduced into our lives #mswl
An end of day #MSWL: I would love middle grade or young adult novel that takes a no-holds-barred look at colorism in marginalized communities and the damage it does to the people in them. #YA #MG #Children
Carole V. Bell @BellCV“Romantic comedies take our primal hunger to connect with one another and give it a story. And at their best, they do much more: They make you believe in the power of communion.”—
Wesley Morris’s excellent rumination on a criminally undervalued genre. nyti.ms/2W2sQl3
Now that we as a nation have accepted that romcoms are amazing, I'm putting out a call: Agents, please send me all the fantastic YA novel or graphic novel romcoms you have! Especially keen for projects from LGBTQIA/POC creators 💫💫💫 #MSWL #YA #GN
Olivia Waite @O_WaiteJust an evening reminder that jewelry was a traditional gift demanded by women not because we’re frivolous magpies but because we weren’t permitted to have bank accounts in many times and places and needed shit we could sell for cash in a pinch.
Mind blown. Can someone please write a historical YA about a girl at the height of society who has, like, the BEST jewelry collection ever but is actually secretly hoarding jewelry so she can make her escape from the patriarchy?? #MSWL
