Middle grade is tough at the moment, but anything that does any of the above, ideally with hook & humour, I’d love to see. The formally interesting too - Benjamin Zephaniah, Ursula LeGuin or David Almond-esque.

I don’t tend to rep picture books or young fiction.

I will always be drawn to international stories and settings - what is unfamiliar (& uncomfortable!) to a Western reader.

I don’t tend to rep high fantasy, but love magic & a speculative hook.

Themes: always, always work that in some way acknowledges the ecological crisis in which we now & will always exist.

Radical reimaginings of how we might live, in terms of collective care, eradicating borders, tearing down capitalist, colonialist & imperialist structures…

Commercial-literary fiction in general: I’m a Fan, My Sister the Serial Killer, Tender is the Flesh, Paul Takes the Form of Mortal Girl are all good examples.

I’m also looking for something more sweeping, still with voice. I love Iris Murdoch, Toni Morrison, Barbara Kingsolver.

Graphic novels across the market, but see 🧵 for general themes that I’m interested in.

Literary / commercial-literary erotica. Especially if bi / queer.

‘Accessible’, light historical - both commercial-literary & literary, across adult & YA markets. Especially non-Western.

Pondering my current #mswl. I’d still love to see some high-concept YA romance (if queer then all the better) that addresses the climate crisis… ecological, possibly international, could be a version of our world, could be fantasy?

My submissions are now reopen – #mswl below. Could be v. crudely summarised as: minoritized voices & stories/ creepy/ funny/ weird/ playful/ radical/ internationalist/ commercial middle-grade/ bold YA/ non-white genre fic/ bold adult non-fic/ anything else you like. Send away!

Anything that doesn't fit any of these is great too, of course, and generally anything that is too 'weird' or bold to fit into a definable genre or category. I have all kinds of (wonderful) stories and writers on my client list already, but I can't wait to grow it. Send away!

More #ownvoices queer and trans love stories in YA would be excellent! And YA graphic novels, too.

YA / crossover is the big one, and there I'm looking for new takes on big commercial / genre, as well as funny, uplifting, voice-led novels, and (always) teen books full of sex, politics and content that teenagers actually want to read but that gatekeepers are sh*t scared of...

I'm largely a kids and YA agent, but I do also represent adult work - especially bold non-fiction with a clear hook and (often) socially progressive aspect - feminism; socialism; environmentalism; internationalism; mental health; prison reform - I'd love to see it.

Would love more graphic novels and author-illustrators for all ages, too!

I also love horror horror - YA, middle-grade, even commercial-literary adult fiction. Creepy, cinematic psychological horror with some kind of genre twist or social justice message would be an absolute dream.

I'd also love some comedy-horror in middle-grade. I don't know what that looks like, but I do know I love ghosts and zombies.

On the subject of middle-grade, I'm still not seeing enough comedy by women. I continue to wax about it, but @sharnajackson's HIGH RISE MYSTERY is the perfect example of a funny, clever adventure with all the life and representation that I'm looking for.
