Oh, and I have a soft spot for Southern Gothic. Especially from/about POC. And I don’t mean just tossing a side character who practices hoodoo/voodoo into a mostly white story. *side eyes Hollywood* #MSWL YA/MG

Dark fantasy or magical realism à la Pan’s Labryinth is another love of mine. I’ve been reading the novelization by Guillermo del Toro and Cornelia Funke, and it has that creepy, ethereal feel of magical realism and folklore mixed with a dash of horror. #MSWL Again YA/MG ONLY.

But not just ghost stories, but anything dark and creepy. I just watched We Have Always Lived in the Castle (which is fantastic, btw), so creepy/gothic with an unreliable narrator is a plus. #MSWL YA/MG only.

Pull out the popcorn, because this is a fascinating story from history with a fantastic ending. twitter.com/michaelharriot…Oh, and I should mention that a MG or YA retelling of this (or similar type of story) is most definitely #MSWL.

Olga Misik: Russia’s ‘Tiananmen teen’ protester on front line bbc.in/2yJF5sUThis will forever be a #MSWL for YA/MG: kids/teens leading rebellions and speaking truth to power.

There’s a post circulating tumblr/Facebook asking why so many tween girls go through a witchy “let’s read fortunes and levitate” sleepover/jr. coven phase. I actually talked to an expert about this exact thing two years ago! medium.com/the-establishm…I would die for a YA/MG along these lines. #MSWL Real magic or just imagined, doesn't matter. I especially like stories that focus on girl friendships/sisterhood.

With all of the attention and love that teen rom-coms are getting right now, I'm wondering if we'll start seeing a resurgence of light, fun romances in YA. I AM HERE FOR THIS. #MSWL
Now to get publishers interested in acquiring them...

Oh man, a YA along the lines of W or Goblin would be AMAZING. #MSWL twitter.com/sarahrmccabe/s…A YA historical fantasy would also be fantastic. Faith (aka The Good Doctor) is still one of my favorite kdramas. Secret Healer (aka Mirror of the Witch) is another that I love. Plus, I've been fascinated by the cdrama Tientsin Mystic. So much fun. #MSWL

1211 CE: 20-year-old girl stands down Genghis Khan, prevents a genocide, teaches herself to read, hires a staff of women, and prototypes a working system of government for the entire Mongol Empire. Her name's Alakhai Beki and she was RAD. rejectedprincesses.com/princesses/ala… pic.twitter.com/jTxRN1gkLFI so want a YA like this. #MSWL Also, is it possible to somehow resurrect her and get her to fix the world?

If I was an agent I think something that would be on the #mswl would be a Pirates of the Caribbean style YA except it's pirates from colonized lands going after the British Empire (@ericsmithrocks plz find this book and rep it thank you) pic.twitter.com/ge9r0SeIUAAhem. #MSWL

One of the most chilling abandoned places in the world is France's Red Zone, or "Zone Rouge".Over 100 years ago, the First World War so devastated the landscape here that people are still forbidden to enter, & the zone has become a ghostly & overgrown place. pic.twitter.com/fPDL4URKmV
Incredible thread on how nature has been reclaiming stretches of land in France that have been uninhabitable since WWI.
Now for an #MSWL: A post-apocalyptic story set in a place like this could be amazing. There's something eerily beautiful yet sinister in those photos. MG/YA

I’ve been tweeting lots of Olympics-related #MSWL b/c of amazing teen athletes. Tonight was breathtaking skate by 15yo Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova. I’d love YA about teen skating phenom. Bonus points for intense rivalry with teammate/friend, like w/Evgenia Medvedeva.

How freeskier Elizabeth Swaney made it to the #WinterOlympics with this very simple halfpipe run: bit.ly/2sFywrc pic.twitter.com/kHTAV7XND4This made me laugh so freaking hard. I would so love to see a YA about a teen who games the system to make it to the Olympics or other hugely competitive international event. #MSWL
