—Character-driven sci-fi and fantasy. Send your sweeping, sexy Kushiel’s Dart-style epics, please!

—Magic realism in its traditional meaning as a movement of Latin American and Caribbean or African fiction.

—Queer genre YA of any kind, especially from QBIPOC.

—Jewish fantasy, including second-world, or fantasy featuring or built around a minority religeon

I know I’m a year late to this party, but having *finally* seen OLD GUARD, all I want in 2022 is a queer SFF with MC’s that give me Joe and Nicky vibes #mswl

Paranormal YA fantasy (can we just call it that again?) Vampires and vampiric beasties, especially queer, especially non-western versions—give me the manananggal! The pontianak! The estrie! But really, any creature that lives a little outside the mainstream and in shadows #MSWL

Queer YA genre fiction of any kind. Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller (I didn't know I liked thrillers, but SURRENDER YOUR SONS got me this year), Sci-fi, Romance, Historical, Horror (as long as it's not too grisly; think Hill House, not Halloween). Most especially from QBIPOC #MSWL

Jewish YA fantasy, from contemporary with “incidentally” Jewish characters to second-world fantasy with Judaism built into its bones. IN FACT, any ownvoices fantasy featuring or built around a minority religion (just, you know, be honest with yourself about what that means) #MSWL

I would truly love an SFF, YA or Adult, with queerness so baked into the world à la She-Ra that nobody even blinks. There’s danger and end-of-the-world stakes and messy relationships galore, but that particular threat is non-existant. This has been today’s #MSWL

I don’t even know what I mean when I say I want a YA or Adult SFF with the vibe of the “Rain On Me” video, but I want it #MSWL
