Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALifeSo let's talk graphic novel #MSWL ahead of me opening on 6/1. Below are just a small sample of some of my talented clients and their work.
For graphic novels, art is such a big part of it for me. pic.twitter.com/nePULFddzM
But you don't have to be an illustrator to give me graphic novels. I also love script only graphic novels #MSWL.
One thing I have noticed about my taste is I read for escape. I lean towards fantasy, or contemporary-elevated (which is not my regular every day).
So #MSWL ahead of reopening on Monday 6/1: contemporary Romances and rom-coms! I have been thinking about the manuscripts I have read lately and loved or the books I have read lately and loved, and this was what they all had in common: they were all romantic books. So gimme!!
Karen Greenberg @kgreenbergreadsIn a big mood for contemporary, literary YA mss that I can get lost in over the long summer weekends. Agents, come through!!
And finally my evergreen #MSWL right now: mermaids. Evil mermaids. Magical realism mermaids. 13th Year Mermaids.
And Ren Faire contemporary.
And Spice Girls friendship break-up MG or YA.
Naomi Davis loves to sing 🎵🎶🎵🎶 @NaomisLitPixI really want a YA contemporary with a powerful female friendship. Like one of those fast, somewhat combustible friendships that takes 100% of you in the high school years and maybe cannot last forever but leaves that soul-deep mark... #mswl
Yes please #mswl
16. Also "We Are Never Getting Back Together" and "Love You Like Love Song" are totally two songs that should be played back to back over and over for inspiration on a contemporary about a couple who just can't seem to get their timing right. #MSWL
10. Also, reminder from my most epic Ren Faire trip: I kind of want a contemporary about working at a Ren Faire and the behind the drama. @angelinearly tweeted about feuds the other day, and I was curious about the hook-ups. So I feel like it could be a good mashup #MSWL.
Lauren Spieller @laurenspiellerWriters, I have a few kidlit #mswl items I'd love to see in 2019!
-funny, contemp YA a la WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI, HOT DOG GIRL, HERETICS ANONYMOUS
-LatinX characters! Please!
-Grounded dark fantasy, a la SAWKILL GIRLS, THE DEVOURING GRAY, THE RAVEN BOYS
Tiffany Shelton, Witch🕯️⛤🌙 @TiffanyDiahannI'm going to keep shouting this out into the ether until I get it: GIVE ME CONTEMPORARY WITCHES! #MSWL #YA #Adult
#MSWL Charmed or Practical Magic adjacent for me, please.
Lauren [closed to queries in August] @laurenspiellerThis is the most obvious #MSWL ever, but...
I want books like To All The Boys I've Loved Before, in YA and Adult. This means:
--family B plots
Let's do this!
Same TBH #MSWL
Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALifeSomething #TeamNat shares, regardless of their chose form, is a willingness to work, be pushed beyond their comfort zones, to experiment, to play, and to remember that we aren't doing easy things, but that is why we are gonna be legendary. (subtle reference to team song 🤓)
And if you have made it this far in my fan girling, you might have noticed that the genres I DON'T HAVE. Which is why I am looking for:
In addition to my fantasy and contemporary list. #MSWL
Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALifeWith my contemporaries, I look for escapism. @Alex__Reda made me fall in love with her Anne/Gilbert level chemistry in her manuscript. @ahoyantara wrote a character as if she had pulled from my darkest corners. @Patti_J_Kurtz gripped me through her way of writing car racing.
@LauraTNamey sucked me in with her prose and the perfect version of my MSWL.
All of #TeamNat's contemporary YA authors had a voice that hooked me and characters to spoke to me. But plots that removed me from my everyday life. #MSWL
Natascha Morris @SoCalledYALifeSince I am feeling sleep deprived, let's do a #MSWL thread
So my list priorities are as follows:
-YA/MG Historical Fiction
- YA Romance
-YA and MG Graphic Novels
-MG Narrative Non-fiction
-YA and MG Contemporary Fiction
