YES, THIS. #MSWLIβm a multilingual person who often translates for loved ones whose first language isnβt English. Itβs a whole set of social interactions and levels of access to systemic power that shape communities and conflicts.
Iβd love to see this examined in #SFF. twitter.com/lindseyhall17/β¦

Please don't hesitate to query me & talk opwnly if you were recently impacted by 1 of these events where an agent didn't do their job according to industry standards.I would love to see your work. 2/#MSWL Adult and YA fantasy, sci fi, romance. I love:β’ fantasy that sweeps me so deep into another world I forget who I really am
β’ sci fi that makes me question my entire reality
β’ the above, in such an explosive/expansive way transitioning back to real life feels impossible
β’ characters who linger beside me for weeks

Letβs also have more protagonist moms whose power doesnβt come from a system of patriarchal monarchy, who come to prominence not for whom they married or birthed, but for their independent accomplishments.Letβs see more heroines whose power isnβt derived from proximity to men.
YES SARAH!!! Life for women and women characters does not start and end with marriage/motherhood. We are women before and after marriage and motherhood, with stories to tell there too. #MSWL esp in SFF.

On my fantasy/scifi #MSWL I often say I like stories to play with time. This doesn't necessarily mean time travel. My FAVORITE movie/short story is Arrival/Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang. The way time is used in that RUINED ME in the best way. Play with big concepts like time.

Most of all, MOST OF ALL, if you're worried your character is not the usual star of a sci-fi fantasy because of elements of diversity (color, religion, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity, disability) QUERY ME PLZ plz plz plz plz! #MSWL
Literary Agent
And if you're feeling sorta "This character isn't typically the focus in sci-fi/fantasy (the King's chef; the ship Captain's errand boy), so it might not grab any attention..." QUERY ME PLZ #MSWL

And if you're like "I'm not 100% sure this sci-fi/fantasy works for the genre because it's more about the sibling/BFF relationship as they navigate the speculative world..." QUERY ME PLZ #MSWL

And if you're like "I've heard sex sells but really that didn't fit with my sci fi so I left it out, and the relationships are totally different than usual pairings in sci-fi or fantasy, so I'm not sure..." QUERY ME PLZ #MSWL

And if you're like "My sci fi is also maybe a little fantasy, bcuz it has weird fantasy creatures and relationships but is dependent on a structure of advanced science, so I dunno..." QUERY ME PLZ #MSWL

So if you're like "Well, I don't really have time travel in my book, but I make my characters question whether time exists at all as their relationships explode in fiery cataclysmic ways..." QUERY ME PLZ #MSWL

I also want to see unique, cinematic sci-fi that's heavy on the fi, light on the sci. And I like to see time, or other elements of life we accept as "reality" played with, too. #MSWL

#MSWL : women, diversity, and #ownvoices in sci fi.
Also desperately in need of a fantasy that takes me to an unexpected, far off land. Preferably with LGBTQ+ elements.
