Your 'weird' or literary-leaning YA books may be for me. I'm interested in younger YA/teen as a category and would especially like to see contemporary, emotional novels (think John Green) and horror for readers aged 13+.

I'm really interested in the cross-genre space generally too (totally here for horromance and dystomance). My taste leans darker generally but I love humour - an author who can fill me with wonder, scare me AND make me laugh is the dream!

For a YA/crossover readership (my initial focus), I'd particularly love to see original, immersive speculative and fantasy novels (especially if inspired by an unusual setting or underrepresented history, mythology or culture), horror, dystopian, romance and thrillers.

Because I know it can be hard for agents to find info on what editors are looking for (YES, I've been there, trawling through Twitter profiles for hints...) I thought I'd go ahead and post my #MSWL here. For clarity, I'm only accepting agented submissions unless via referral. 🧵

For adult fiction only (since these genres don't apply to children's): 4. Bookclub/women’s fiction: Voice-driven, high-concept novels across these categories. 5. Romance: Upmarket romance with a great one-line pitch. Happy with spice.

3. Thrillers: Upmarket thrillers with a unique spin. Love plot twists! 4. Historical: Open to everything with a strong hook and informed by excellent research. Would love to find non-Eurocentric historical fiction.

Romantasy is fine but the fantasy elements MUST be strong! 2. Horror: Psychological and paranormal horror in particular but will consider slashers. Love gothic horror. Generally not fazed by gory content.

here's a general sense of what I want for reference. For MG, YA and Adult: 1. Fantasy/Science Fiction: High fantasy, low fantasy, cosy fantasy. Particularly interested in fantasy and SF inspired by underrepresented cultures with unique world-building.

Thought I'd share my fiction #MSWL as I prepare to open! As mentioned, my list will be 60/40 towards MG/YA, the rest adult. I don't have much MG so during my first open query week, I will be considering MG only. However, I'll do different genres and age-groups each month, so🧵

The 40 will comprise of adult fiction, mainly, with the odd non-fiction project thrown in. I'll do a more specific MSWL in the coming days ready for when I open up. I will use Query Manager like before and will keep my semi-personalized rejections system.

My list will be more focused on middle-grade & YA fiction this time, leaning about 60/40 in that direction. No one else at DMLA is currently looking for MG so I'm thrilled to be able to fill that gap. When I open up to queries, I'll seeking mainly MG in the first instance.
