During this downtime I’m reading a lot! Here’s my #MSWL!
✨ Genre blending literary fiction! Give me that weird stuff.
🌈 Diverse, inclusive YA! Give me books that reflect the world!
😳 Non-fiction that surprises and delights!
Let’s go! ericsmithrocks.com/mswl
I open up to queries again at @PSLiterary on Monday, so I've updated my wishlist!
I'd love to see more adult fiction and non-fiction this year. Send me your messy genre-blending stories, niche cookbooks, and complex memoirs.
Details on the blog! ericsmithrocks.com/blog/2019/12/2… #MSWL
Some fun specific #MSWL things I'm looking for in YA:
A teen birder.
Teens really into snorkeling and diving.
Kids interning in national parks.
Teens really into rock climbing.
Give me niche, specific stories about passion projects, with all the unique terminology and language.
Dahlia Adler @MissDahlELamaIf you love college-kid YA as much as I do, you’re gonna wanna check out these new/upcoming titles! barnesandnoble.com/blog/teen/5-ne… via @BNTeens
Floating a little wishlist item out to the universe, but I really want to see more kid-lit non-fiction in my inbox.
Young Adult and Middle Grade non-fiction, specifically. #MSWL
I’m so proud of the work @IamGMJohnson and @robin_stevenson are doing, and I’d love to see more.
Still getting the occasional DM asking if I'm open to queries... and I am! :-D
Here's what I'm looking for:
Most genres of YA.
Genre blending literary fiction.
Accessible sci-fi and fantasy.
Memoir and essay collections.
Query me! ericsmithrocks.com/mswl #MSWL
Eric Smith @ericsmithrocksI get upset about the idea of a book being “too quiet” because of seemingly small stakes.
That internal journey is such a part of being a teenager. That’s your audience.
Yes fight The Citadel in the Battle of the Wars, but also maybe get books about panicking over first kisses.
*passes away on that Quiet YA hill while writing a tweet about wanting to read a book about a teen stressing over marching band auditions* #MSWL
Molly Templeton @mollytempleton@ericsmithrocks hi, it's me, I'm the audience for this and and an entire series of YA books featuring other dawn of the internet delights (there's gotta be an IRC one, of course)
OMG. Please someone give me a book where teens swap super long ICQ numbers. #MSWL
Every time I type “bbs” instead of “babies” I’m reminded how badly I want an early 90’s YA novel with a teen running a bulletin board system (BBS) on their computer.
“Who is the audience for dawn of the Internet niche YA-“
Shush! Gimme. #MSWL
Dahlia Adler @MissDahlELamaIf you happen to be looking for YAs set in college, here’s a post I did last year with a bunch that also links to another post with a bunch, for a total of 16: barnesandnoble.com/blog/teen/10-n…
