As always, I’m looking for YA Contemporary as well, though I am far more picky with my YA contemporary than anything else. I am NOT a good fit for anything with rape, trauma, suicide, etc.. I’ve lived enough of it, I really don’t want to see it in a book, too. Sorry! #mswl

In adult romancelandia though, I need a strong, hook-y voice, and am open to all heat levels (though my clients might say I err a bit on the cooler side of high-heat. No erotica here). #mswl

In addition to this, I’m packed on adult romance and rom-com writers right now, but will always be open for the select few that catch my eye. I specifically look for and ask for marginalized voices here from BIPOC. I also have a soft spot for K-dramas. #mswl

YES:
2. Anything with an industrial feel. I still haven’t quite gotten over my steampunk phase, and maybe never will.
3. Different forms of magic (bone magic, song magic, written magic, etc.)
4. Anything based in/on history (Vikings, court intrigue, creepy mythology, etc.) #mswl

Now, for things that I’m not particularly looking for, but that are undeniably just a ME thing in YA and Adult Fantasy:
1. Sisters/siblings who really don’t like each other. It’s okay when family has issues that can’t be resolved. I’m def here for this.

NO:
5. Dragons. Never been one for them. Sorry.
6. Angels (though I’d definitely consider demons and demonic entities 😈)
7. Comedy. One liners and sarcasm: great. Trying to tow the line between manuscript and comedian: nope. Not for me. Give me darkness.

NO:
1. Royalty MCs - super tired of princesses. If you’re going to do this, give me a damn Queen.
2. Fae/faeries/elves - they had their time. Now is not their time.
3. Vampires - never been a vampire person.
4. Elemental Magic that’s just earth, wind, fire, water, etc..

In addition, I’m looking for so many things in both YA and Adult fantasy, that’s it’s harder to pin down what I WANT than it is to just list the things I DON’T want. So here goes things I DO NOT LIKE in fantasy: #mswl

Kelly RELENTLESS is OUT NOW! @LitAgentKelly
Alright, since I’m opening my query box on Saturday, it’s about time I started a tweet thread of what I’m currently looking for!BUCKLE UP, BUTTERCUPS. LET’S RIDE! #mswl pic.twitter.com/LBut6XwZLB
Honestly, my heart wants YA fantasy. ALL THE YA HIGH FANTASY. It’s been too long, and publishing has been depriving me for FOREVER, and I need fantasy NOW. (Read: I needed fantasy 2 years ago during COVID, and now I’m on my death bed, it’s been too long). #mswl

In the spirit of being anti-pumpkin spice, I want my #MSWL to embody stories (YA and Crossover Adult genre fiction) that don't give a f*ck! #femininerage #DoRevenge

"Send me all your ghost stories. I'll take adult fiction (scary or fun), a history of haunted places in America, an illustrated book—you name it, I'm here for it. Spook me!"

As always, submission is via our website. You're looking for the Adult Fiction submission form at the link below. Please send here rather than to me directly as I've got it set up to send to kindle etc. so I don't miss things.

And more than anything, I'd just love books that are FUN! I've got authors writing me romcoms set in theme parks and cosy crime themed around antique hunters. The main unifying thread is that they are FUN to read, to work on and to connect with readers and editors #mswl

I'd love a book club (still commercial) submission that explores the concept of love between friends in a non-toxic way and the impact of those 'breakups' and how people change together over time. It's huge and devastating and so often glossed over. #mswl

The one thing I AM missing in the crime fiction space is a US series/titles. I'd love a rural US setting with a small town detective by an author with experience living in the States. Immerse me in the life & ensure the characterisation and mystery is still at the forefront #mswl

In terms of police procedural/detective fiction, I've got some really fab authors on my list in this space so it would have to be utterly standout for me to take it further. So what's your USP? Make sure you get it into the pitch! #mswl

On the romance side, I'm also really keen to represent a gorgeous destination romance writer. Something set in a holiday destination, anywhere in the world, so I can feel as though I've had a mini-break in a book. Bring that setting and that romance to life for me! #mswl
