I got my hair cut today and there was a tiny, precious 4-year-old boy getting his hair cut at the station next to me. Stylist said he keeps a stuffed animal around for the boys because the clippers scare them.🥺

I loved the unique POVs of these MG books—a parrot, a gorilla, an imaginary friend. Writing from a perspective like this is a tall order, but when a writer gets it right it can be breathtaking. I’d love to find an incredible MG novel with a unique narrator! ✨ #MSWL

This has been on my #MSWL for a while but I want to put it out there again: I'd love to find the next Brian Selznick-type of creator who tells grand, intricate stories in a hybrid format of illustrations/text. ✨

One time I posted a link to my MSWL Pinterest board, and someone tweeted back, "I love CIRCUS MIRANDUS too!"

I was like: um, what? That book is not on the list. I've never even heard of it!

But guess what? I just read it...

And. WOW. Now it IS on my #MSWL! ✨🎪

I just read + really liked SHIP OF DOLLS by Shirley Parenteau—I love historical fiction centered around very specific, lesser known moments from history, in this case the Friendship Dolls exchange with Japan in the 20s. Would love to see more stories like this in my inbox! #MSWL

Every time I spot the SCBWI folder designed by @ogemora in my office, or read one of her books, I'm reminded yet again of how much I love collage. I'd love to see more PBs that utilize collage! ✂️📜🎨 #MSWL

Mixed Media/Epistolary/Other Unique Forms—I love stories that are told in unique formats like letters, emails, texts, transcripts, journal entries, etc. #MSWL

Devotionals—I’d love to represent more concept-driven devotionals. I represented a knitting devotional called Knit, Pray, Share and loved the specificity of it. Would love to do more devotionals with unique hooks! #MSWL

Gift books—I represented The Compendium of Magical Beasts, which is all about the anatomy of magical creatures, and would love to represent more quirky gift books like this. #MSWL

Mystery. MG + YA. I will never forget reading The Dollhouse Murders when I was in fifth grade and having to close the book because I was so scared. I want to work on books that prompt that same level of book-induced fright! Also: I’m obsessed with the Truly Devious series. #MSWL

Atmospheric books. I love a unique atmosphere/strong sense of place in books across the board—to the extent where the setting feels like one of the characters. #MSWL
