Carina Press is holding a pitch event on Nov. 30 for our Adores line of LGBTQ+ contemporaries. For this line, we don't require the full manuscript to submit, nor do we require you to have an agent. And we're providing feedback on requested submissions! twitter.com/Write4Harlequi…For Carina Adores, some of the tropes that will grab my eye include attraction of opposites, cross class, fake relationship, marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, secret agenda, second chance, road trip, forced proximity, fairy tale retelling. Low angst stories only. #MSWL

This review mentions something I love seeing in romance manuscript submissions. I want to see main characters who are not looking for romance. Who are not jealous of paired-up friends, who are not told to date/get laid, who are not super aware of their single state. twitter.com/SmartBitches/s…What I want to see instead in romance submissions are characters who are intent on achieving some sort of goal, who are leading interesting lives that get knocked sideways by the love interest. #MSWL

It is more radical to publish Black joy than it is to publish Black trauma, pass it on.Top of my wish list for manuscript acquisitions (and freelance jobs) are romantic comedies by #ownvoices authors featuring BIPOC protagonists who make each other laugh.

Another one of my favorite tropes is enemies to lovers. I'd love to acquire a romcom series with the feel of the London Celebrities books by @_LucyParker #MSWL

#MSWL For Carina Adores, I'd love to acquire a queer marriage of convenience contemporary.Or a queer take on any of my fave tropes...

#MSWL Some of my favorite tropes include secret agenda, secret identity...secrets in general. Fake dating, arranged marriages, second chance, forbidden love, and forced proximity. I enjoy stories with strong family elements, and characters that are quirky and smart.

Do you have any specific #MSWLs that you're wanting to see in any of the genres besides what's on the blog? #carinachatMy #MSWL includes escapist reads and feel-good stories these days. Romcoms, lighthearted characters, lower-angst conflict, light paranormal elements, humorous cozies. Stories with cookies and puppies and bighearted characters. Make me smile!

#MSWL I’m eager to acquire for @CarinaPress’s newest line, Adores, featuring LGBTQ+ characters, and I’m especially interested in #ownvoices submissions. Here’s a link for more information about the requirements for Adores:

i feel like there is all this anxiety surrounding agents' mswl's because i think it can feel like a "skip the line" opportunity, and in some ways it is, but ultimately i think a lot of us are also looking to be surprised and find something in our inbox we hadn't thought of yet. This applies to editors too: I don't always know what I want to acquire until I read it. If a ms doesn't fit my exact wishlist, a submitting author/agent shouldn't be concerned. I'm most excited by fresh ideas that surprise me. The only limitation is if we pub that genre.

I often post about my editor wishlist but the truth is I don't always know what I want till I read it. I never knew I wanted a mystery series with a dowser sleuth till @authorwendy subbed it. Never knew I'd love a paranormal mystery with a not-ghost sleuth till @jeralibu wrote itSo just because your story doesn't appear to match my editor wishlist, don't hesitate to send it in anyway. The unexpected stories are often the most exciting. I'm reading a manuscript submission right now that's giving me that delight in the unexpected. #MSWL
