What am I looking for? HORROR and NONFICTION ! My #mswl thread:

For Nonfic, I'm looking for Narrative nonfiction, some memoir and cultural criticism. I'm pretty flexible here, but generally looking for authors who have a personal stake in the subject matter and who can infuse their own perspective into whatever they're investigating 7/10

For the most part, my MSWL has stayed the same, but note that I'm no longer accepting nonfiction submissions! I've read so many lovely NF subs this year, but I'm taking a step back in 2023. If you have a NF sub out with me, it'll be passed along to another LB agent!

Recently more interested in stories of people interacting with animals or the natural world and could really enjoy narrative nonfiction or novels that speak to our relationship to the planet #mswl

I’m always curious for more historical fiction and narrative nonfiction from non-white/non-Eurocentric perspectives about events or individuals that deserve to be more widely talked about #mswl

Nonfiction (especially self-help or cultural commentary) from qualified sources. I want books that help people discover issues they didn't know about or see a familiar problem in a new way. Fresh perspectives are not only welcomed but encouraged! #MSWL

I’m always excited to see strong nonfiction proposals in my inbox. Pop culture, environmental science, history, occult, and lifestyle. Illustrated projects. Essays written by modern journalists. #MSWL

Illustrated graphic novels and graphic nonfiction by individual author/illustrators. MG, YA, Adult. The art needs to cleverly utilize the comics storytelling format. I’m not looking at script-only submissions at the moment. #MSWL

this is maybe a little specific but i'd really love to find some historical fiction or nonfiction about the AIDS epidemic and the activism / community care / political radicalism that organized around it/as a result of it #mswl

I am *not* the right agent for the nonfiction categories of true crime, sports, and music.
I am also *not* a good fit for stories with passive protagonists.
I do *not* rep children’s books, YA, poetry, screenplays, graphic novels, or novellas.

I am passionate about representing under or misrepresented voices and stories that contribute to a larger cultural conversation whether explicitly (e.g., a nonfiction title on social justice) or subtly (a comedy of manners about a mixed-raced Latinx family)…

The human brain is an endless source of fascination. I am hungry for nonfiction proposals with a neuroscience bent, particularly titles exploring the nexus between neuroscience and other fields, e.g., neuropsychology, neurosociology, neuropharmacology, neuronutrition, etc.

My taste in nonfiction is eclectic: no title is too serious or too accessible. I am hungry for original, expert-driven argumentative nonfiction that offers a clear paradigm shift to the reader (e.g., reader will pick up the book thinking X and will leave the book thinking Y).

NONFICTION: I am open to most categories, across the spectrum, including psychology, history, current affairs, science, politics, narrative journalism, nature and the environment, wellness, spirituality, business and economics, mathematics, parenting, lifestyle, and pop culture.

A few #mswl bits I'll be on the hunt for in 2023: fun mystery/crime (think Finlay Donovan or Sunshine Vicram), horror (Stephen Graham Jones, Grady Hendrix), journalistic + narrative nonfiction (Patrick Radden Keefe, Jane Mayer, Erik Larson), and pop science (Brusatte, Imbler)!

Also still excited about moving, universal memoir, paradigm-shifting nonfiction, adult graphic novels, craft, nature, and (as always) feminist anything.
