#MSWL I’d love more queer and other diverse YA and MG fantasy in my inbox, please! Something with a great hook, voicey writing, and/or easily accessible world building. I want characters who make me HAVE to read on. (Agented submissions only.)

Caitlyn Averett is on hiatus @craverett

Some #MSWL things:

1) MG fantasy, please! Especially myth-based, w/a strong focus on character, & a beautiful world/setting.

2) Contemporary MG/YA with LGBTQ+ characters.

3) MG graphic novels!

4) Underrepresented voices.

5) YA or MG that deals w/grief and/or mental health.

Briefly popping back in to say that I'm still looking for contemporary w/LGBTQIA+ characters! Same goes for the rest of the list, but I'm especially in the mood for contemporary right now. Really looking for strong voice w/a compelling internal conflict. #MSWL

(Agented only.)

#MSWL Would really like to see some LGBTQ+ contemporary YA in my inbox when I’m back from vacation, so, agents, if you’ve got something you think I’d enjoy, please send it over! I love complex characters, and deep, emotional stories. Hooky concept + voice, please!

#MSWL Would really love some mega queer YA. So long as it's hooky, I'm not super picky about genre (just not huge into high fantasy/high sci-fi). I love being surprised by pitches I might not've normally expected to go for. (A lot of what I bring to acquisitions starts that way.)

#MSWL Really in the mood for voicey, gritty contemporary YA. Give me messy characters struggling to hold it all together while dealing with difficult situations/emotions. I love bittersweet stories that hurt & also make me smile. (A plus if it’s LGBTQIA.) Please send them to me!

It has come to my attention that the JIMMY list has no books containing dragons. This must be remedied, so agents, please send me MG submissions with dragons in them! I had a huge thing for dragons as a kid and would love to see some unique takes on them now. #MSWL

I’d love to see some really fun, quirky, voicey commercial MG in my inbox as of January. (I mean, feel free to send it in December, but I’m working through my current submissions rn.) #MSWL

#MSWL MG with evil geniuses à la Artemis Fowl. Like, it’s great when kids save the world, but I’d love to see them trying to take over the world, too.

But in a way that makes me root for the main character. I want to *want* them to succeed, no matter their goal.

General #MSWL stuff: magic/spells gone wrong, ghosts, resurrections, possessions, the end of the world scenarios, characters who get themselves into weird/messed up situations that push them to their emotional limits, & friendship stories, especially friendships that ended badly.

Agents, send me stories with nonlinear narratives, please! I love the way foreshadowing can be done with non-chronological timelines, and how knowing the ending can make me all the more drawn into the story. #MSWL
