This #PrideMonth, it is important to recognize non-binary and gender nonconforming people have been here from the beginning of the U.S. Here is a thread on one of the most influential such persons in early America. An abolitionist minister known as The Public Universal Friend. 1/ pic.twitter.com/2YaoROZugHI would love a picture book or novel involving the Public Universal Friend! #MSWL

One of the first works of art I distinctly remember seeing, in a textbook or encyclopedia when I was in third grade or so. As powerful now as it was then. pic.twitter.com/CBClilib3hI would love a picture-book biography of Oscar Micheaux by a Black writer who loves the art of film. #MSWL

I talk about this all the time but having young ppl express despair about violence/poverty in their communities, w/o helping them understand where these conditions emerge from, means they might think it has to do w/the *ppl* in those communities rather than what was done to them.I think this is a really profound point, & I would love to see some picture book MSs at @leeandlow that do this structural/societal work #MSWL
