Meet YInMn, the First New Blue Pigment in Two Centuries! Created accidentally in 2009 by chemists at Oregon State University. Named after its components — Yttrium, Indium, and Manganese — and its luminous, vivid pigment never fades.hyperallergic.com/615971/meet-yi… pic.twitter.com/oxUdQy8SqK
#mswl: a speculative novel that feels like this exact color—luminous, vivid, never-fading

let’s unpack why teenage girls ask the same questions academics do in more accessible terms and get dragged through the mud#mswl — this is everything I want in YA speculative fiction
also, perfect place to plug @ockaur’s forthcoming YA SF novel, RISE OF THE RED HAND, whose teen heroine asks alllll the uncomfortable questions about power and inequality—often with her fists 😉

#MSWL: Speculative novels that feel like poetry, that call to mind specific poems, without being entirely in verse. Specific poets I like for these purposes: Tennyson, Donne, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Langston Hughes, Omar Khayyam, Wallace Stevens (There are more! Surprise me!)

#MSWL:
I’m craving speculative stories about immigration & community that cast a wide net. Give me the Ellis Island “empty pockets/big dreams” classic. Give me knowledge workers, refugees, sprawling mixed-status families. Give these characters magic, spaceships, eldritch secrets.

Happy #InternationalWomensDayA quick thread on the North African prophetess queen, Al Kahina who fought against the Ummayd armies with the skills of a warrior and the powers of a sorceress
This is an amazing story. #MSWL (It’s practically already speculative!)

SNOW WHITE >> FOREST OF A THOUSAND LANTERNS @juliecdaoBEAUTY AND THE BEAST >> IN THE VANISHER’S PALACE @aliettedb
ROMEO & JULIET >> STREET LOVE by Walter Dean Myers (RIP, I had to include this one)
There are so many more! You could fill a whole display and then some!
Since we’re here: I’d love to acquire some diverse speculative retellings of classic novels and myths by marginalized writers for @ErewhonBooks!

What if, when a woman died during an unsafe #abortion, the man who got her pregnant died too?THIS THREAD. This is a killer (pun very much intended) speculative fiction premise. Is someone writing this? Please? #MSWL
