We represent both published and unpublished authors. However, when submitting work for consideration for representation you usually need a new ms or proposal. #askagent

Vanessa Ford @VanessaFordDC

@BookEndsJessica @debralynnlazar @bookendslit Apologies! Do people who write books in different genres (children’s and memoir for example) tend to have an agent who works in Children’s and an agent who works in Memoir? Or, do they find one agent who does both well?
Replying to @VanessaFordDC

It really depends. My suggestion is find the right agent for the book that's ready to query right now and let your path take you where it may. It might be 2 agents or one that handles all. Try not to predict or plan for what you can't know. #askagent

Follow-up question: do you, or any agents you know, hold it against a writer if they've had an agent (or 2) in the past? twitter.com/BookEndsJessic…
Replying to @debralynnlazar

I don't and I don't think anyone at @bookendslit will either. There are a myriad of reasons an author might have had multiple agents--a difference of vision, an agent leaving the business, a change in career. We get it. #askagent

Today Tomorrow Forever @debra_nasser

#AskBookEnds. I gave up on the querrying route and self published instead. It was my debut and I wasn't sure if it and I had what it takes for traditional. Now I want to query again, now that I have great confidence in my "baby". How does one go about that route?
Replying to @debra_nasser

It's very difficult to sell a book into a publisher once it has been self-published. The feeling is that it's harder for an editor to shape it and you've already seen sales. I would suggest you try an agent/publisher for your next book instead. #askBookEnds #askagent

Lia_B @umm_Melia

#AskBookEnds #AskAgent Is it okay to send queries for new adult to agents who represent YA? Or is it better to stay on the safe side and only query agents who represent Adult fic?
Replying to @umm_Melia

It is, but I would suggest moving away from New Adult to either Adult or YA. It's going to be difficult to sell new adult in today's market. It never hurts to try to expand your list of queries though. #askBookEnds #askagent

Agents do it by living this life day in and day out and talking to editors and publishers and knowing from our own experiences what books are selling and how they are selling. We can tell by the numbers when things decline for example & we pay attention. #askBookEnds #askagent

Stacy Houston @Stacy_SMH

@bookendslit How long is too long to wait for a reply on a full request? It has been over 16 months now. I’ve checked back with the agent and was told hopefully soon back in April. I don’t want to keep bothering her, but how long should I wait? #AskBookEnds
Replying to @Stacy_SMH

I think that's too long. I can't imagine anyone needs to take that long to read a ms. My suggestion is keep asking, but move on in other ways. You might want to mark it as a pass so you can free yourself for something else. #askBookEnds #askagent

Replying to @avaunlocked

Twitter is a dirty black hole that sucks us in and makes us angry. So, not important at all. ;) No really, you don't need Twitter. You probably do need social media at some point in your publishing career, but pick the platform you like. #askagent

Destinee S. @winkchii

@BookEndsJessica Sorry if this is off subject but what are your views/experience on a revise and resubmit? Is there a chance for an offer? Or is it more likely a 'no' after the resubmit? Do you have any advice? Sorry again for so many questions!
Replying to @winkchii

I do think there's a chance for an offer. An agent would ask to see something again unless they are interested. Of course, it's also a bit of a test to see how you handle revisions. I think my advice, is do what you can do and what works for you to make it the best. #askagent
