I have received several queries saying a person I don't know has "referred" them to me, and while queries are good regardless, this feels weird. It's not a strike against the writers, but I fear they think there's a connection when there's not. #pubtip

Adding to this, if you insist on including the five pages from the middle of the book in your query instead of the first five pages (as requested), you need a new beginning. If you can't win a reader over in the beginning, it doesn't matter how great pages 110-115 are. #querytip

Quick little #querytip: if you call an agency to ask about their submission process, and someone kindly takes the time to walk you through it, don't HANG UP when they say they'll have to read your letter before they decide. Can't wait to put your query right in the trash!

If you MIGHT be interested in requerying an agent one day down the road, it MIGHT not be in your best interest to respond to their personalized rejection telling them you “might” consider querying them with your next project. You never know when they MIGHT remember you. #querytip

Of the full manuscripts I currently have two are contemporary mystery/suspense, one is women's fiction, one is memoir, one is a cozy mystery, and one is contemporary YA. Of the two I requested today one is psychological suspense and one is literary fiction. #querystats
