Why is "the chosen one" always a teenager? We're really gonna put the fate of the universe on someone with an undeveloped prefrontal cortex? Give me a story with a chosen one who is a 42 year old mom that has already seen some shit and is totally out of fucks to giveas many others have no doubt said, 1000% #mswl

#MSWL: right about now we all need to get lost in a story that's positive, escapist, and fun. Ideally with strong women at its center. Be it a romp, a romance, a literary thriller -- send books that will carry us away. Submission guidelines here: pw.org/literary_agent…

#MSWL for updates or new creative takes on classic literary novels that *aren't* Jane Austen books. Where my Bronte lovers at?

Women who aren't what you expect, who have strong or indelible (not necessarily likable) voices. Again, in lit fic or commercial women's fiction; also YA and MG. #MSWL

Dipping briefly into #MSWL day on behalf of Amy Berkower. We'd love to see vivid and precise portraits of a small town that's off the expected track. So many novels are set in Manhattan or the Bay Area. Wld love lit fic that brings an unexpected location to life.

there is one hundred percent a novel about these ladies waiting to be written and I am here to read it. #MSWL

A literary novel about any of these women; their relationships; the 1950s New York art scene in general ... GIVE IT TO ME #mswl newyorker.com/magazine/2018/…

I know MI-5 has an age limit but I honestly think the invisibility of women as they age would be perfect for assassination work#MSWL, especially if it was literary and wry and examined myths about women aging.

This (terrifying!) story would be incredible inspiration for a novel. #mswl thecut.com/2018/11/the-ha…

how would you describe this genre of books because I love it: the Secret History, A Little Life, Brideshead Revisited, Special Topics In Calamity Physics. Books about beautiful smart pretentious way-too-close school friends who are surrounded by sexual tension, money, and death? This genre is 🙌 and a perpetual #MSWL

been thinking about how the worst heartbreak i’ve ever suffered was from a friendship breakup, and how that is so rarely explored in YA. i didn’t know how to cope because i didn’t know anyone who had gone through something that intense. we need to fix this. This is why I love novels that are focused on the bonds between young women -- crushes came and went, but my female friendships defined my high school experience. #MSWL

A more abstract #MSWL, but I loved this story about the last Blockbusters of Alaska and the role they played in their communities. I'd love to see a literary novel, YA or adult, that focuses on these social shifts due to technology.theringer.com/movies/2018/7/…
Abby, Amy's assistant, and I are still talking about this days later, and she came up with a genius idea: a love story between the last two people in an AOL chat room. #MSWL

#MSWL Would totally love a novel with the light spirit and sweet heart of "Set It Up" (Reader, I watched it). Maybe something not set in NYC, but another city with a young professional class, where the setting could be part of the story.

#antiMSWL check-in: Amy Berkower is not actively acquiring picture books, nonfiction (including memoirs), or poetry -- we've been getting a lot of queries in all three categories lately, and I hate to waste folks' time. #querytips #MSWL

There's *so* much history we can take advantage of for YA. Victims of colonization going after the British Empire??? Like, subvert the colonial English genre! Imagine The Little Princess or The Jungle Book but instead of quaint British stories, they're tales of anger & revenge!!No joke, my Ph.D. dissertation was a postcolonial reading of Raj fictions.
SEND ME ALL THESE SUBVERSIONS they are my dream in life. #MSWL
