Today's #querytip: Look at your prologue with a merciless and dispassionate eye. Do you really need it? Most of the time the answer is no.

It's super helpful when authors include their query & synopsis as the first pgs of their MS. Love to have everything in 1 place. #querytip

Don't tell me your novel is MG/YA. They're diff categories w/ diff conventions. Know what you've written. #querytip

If I get to the end of your query and you haven't told me the title of your book, that's a problem. #amquerying #querytip

Also, don't denigrate an entire genre as a way of trying to show how much better your book is. Especially a genre I rep. Nope. #querytip

Yes, you're standing out from the crowd when you don't follow sub guidelines. But not in a good way. Follow. Sub. Guidelines. #querytip

If your main character is in his or her 20s, your book is not YA. #querytip #amwriting

If the subj line of your email says you are including a few random chapters of your book, I will immediately delete. #querytip #amquerying

Amanda Jain @wensday95 · 12 Mar 2016

Don't query in the voice of your main character. It's just weird. #querytip #amquerying

Please stop calling them fictional novels. Please. #querytip

If you're thinking of sending a query to multiple agents at once and using a sarcastic / snarky salutation, don't. Just. Don't. #querytip

FYI, emailing a link to your website does not a query make. #querytip

Rsrch word counts for your genre. If you query contemp YA that's 30k or 180k words, it shows you aren't familiar with the market. #querytip
