Model your query letter off of the backcover copy of your favorite books. It should be succinct, alluring, and very easy to digest. Use attention-grabbing words. Read it aloud to find the flow. Tell us a story we'll beg to hear more of. #TMGTalks #querytip

Novellas can be a great tool to increase interest in a series and provide more background info that didn't make it into the main novels. But as standalones, I'll reject right away--as soon as I see the word count. #querytip

If you reply to a rejection, your response will get sent to my query folder and I won't see it until months later! If you really do want to discuss something with me, make sure you don't have the word "Query" in your subject. #querytip #amagenting

#QueryTip When looking for agents: Go to writing conferences where you can meet agents in person. Attend their sessions. Follow them on social media. Listen to podcasts. Read interviews. Who seems like a good fit for you? #amquerying

#querytip: Use your pitch to intrigue, not impress. Flowery language won’t make me any more interested in your story than simply getting your point across will (especially when you misuse a fancy adjective as a noun).

You don't need to repeat our agent interests back to us--we know what's listed on #MSWL. Instead of telling us your book is a match, show us with comps & a great hook. #querytip
